Description:

Our Adult Emergency Department (ED) based at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey is now recruiting for Band 3 Senior Health Care Support Workers
Our ED is a very busy department seeing more than 110,000 people per year, it operates 24 hours per day serving a densely populated and diverse community.

THE DEPARTMENT IS DIVIDED INTO 6 SECTIONS:

PIT stop (ambulance receiving)
Urgent Treatment Centre – for minor injuries and illnesses
Majors/High dependency
Resuscitation – a 4 bedded area with dedicated stroke, cardiac, trauma and paediatric bays
Same day Emergency Care and Clinical Decision Unit – for patients requiring more than 4 hours observation
Full time and part time posts (minimum of 23 hours) will be considered, shifts include long days, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Our Senior HCSWs will need the flexibility to cover varied shift patterns.
Essential criteria to be eligible and considered for this post is:
Previous NHS experience as a health care support worker
Having successfully achieved the Care Certificate.
Successful candidates must also have good communication skills, competent IT skills, a valid right to work document (please note the Trust is not offering sponsorship for this post), and have a kind, caring and compassionate nature.

Our Healthcare Support Workers are at the heart of providing direct patient centred care, supporting the Registered Nurses and Nursing Associates as well as the wider Multi-Disciplinary Teams.
The role is varied, equally challenging and rewarding, where you will have the opportunity to really make a difference to the experience of our patients. The role includes
Providing direct patient care including meeting hygiene, continence, nutrition, pressure area care and mobility needs
Taking and recording patients’ vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to a patient’s condition
Providing one to one observation for patients who present a high risk of harm and vulnerable patients
Undertaking training and competencies related to the role such as undertaking ECGs, venepuncture and cannulation, POP training and competencies to be able to apply below elbow and leg back slab
Escorting patients to different departments such as x-ray
Transferring patients that need hospital admission to a ward, which includes management of patient’s property
Keep the department and equipment clean, tidy, and restocking equipment
Training and supporting new and junior team members

Working as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker in the Emergency Department will involve carrying out assigned tasks involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients. This will be whilst demonstrating excellent care, compassion and communication, and in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse or Nursing Associate, incorporating:
Continence Management
Nutrition & Hydration
Undertaking and recording of Vital Signs
Moving & Handling of patients to support independence
Infection Prevention and Control
Safeguarding of adults and children.
