Job Description
Aecom Burnaby or Kelowna is hiring a Senior Highway Engineer - Hydrotechnical
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide and/or supervise the delivery of professional design services, specifications for various hydraulic structures including ditches, catchments, culverts, spillways, etc.
- Serve as a fully capable professional and engineer of record with advance knowledge in planning and design to facilitate high quality and cost-effective solutions for hydrotechnical demands.
- Lead hydrological, hydraulics and hydrotechnical studies including modelling for highway design projects and prepare technical reports and proposals.
- Provide or lead designs for flood mitigation and control measures and restoration of streams, river channels, ditches, culverts and embankments.
- Provide professional advisory services for hydrotechnical impacts and design solutions to clients, project teams and other partners.
- Complete or lead hydrotechnical design deliverables through internal and external sources including designs, cost estimates, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic and working drawings.
- Review the deliverables for accuracy, completeness, functionality, and adherence to BC Provincial standards, procedures and requirements.
- Keep current with hydrotechnical engineering policies and standards through ongoing professional development, participation in ongoing learning webinars, conferences, seminars and literature review.
- Supervise licensed and non-licensed professional and technical staff including assignment of work, guidance, mentoring, development and evaluation of performance plans.
- Assist hydrogeological projects including contaminated sites, remediation, groundwater flow models and hydrogeologic characterization
- Manage concurrent projects of substantial scopes and developing hydrotechnical design intent, project specifications and directions to project teams.
- Lead proposals and teaming for hydrotechnical assignments through collaboration with other business lines within AECOM.
- Project manage hydrotechnical projects from planning through design and construction including collaboration with design team and client.
- Provide or lead the delivery of hydrotechnical design reports including criteria, intent, constructability, and staging.
- Prepare or lead the delivery of hydrotechnical design and construction status reports for client and project teams.
- Lead and assist with the development of project scope, schedule, and budget alongside client, project manager and other team members.
- Perform or lead field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents.
- Organize and lead project meetings with client and public and oversees all aspects of the project to ensure client needs and project objectives are met.
- Assist with the preparation of regulatory requirements, permits, environmental assessments and stakeholder consultation.
- Propose opportunities and assist with business development and highway engineering team building in BC.
- Implement corporate policies related to quality management and sustainable legacies.
- Supporting AECOM’s vision, values, and key business development priorities.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in hydrotechnical studies including hydrology and hydraulics.
- Minimum 8 years experience in transportation with direct responsibility for highway design projects.
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
- Proficiency in the use of HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS or other similar tools and applications.
- Experienced with the application of Water Sustainability and Fisheries Acts in hydrotechnical designs.
- Experienced with BC’s climate change guidelines and resiliency strategy for hydrotechnical designs.
- Experienced with the applications of BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Provincial Standard Specifications, BC Supplement to the TAC Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads and BC Bridge Standards and Procedures and Supplement to Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extensive experience with BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) projects.
- Experienced working with Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium tools.
- Experience working with and providing advice and counsel to government clients and a variety of stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes.
- Ability to interpret application of the BC Motor Vehicle and BC Transportation Acts.
- Ability to supervise hydrogeologists, geologists and groundwater modellers.
- Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations in BC.
