Job Details

As a Senior Underwriter the accountability is to drive profitable growth through quality underwriting with a commercial focus.

  • Accountable to collaborate with internal partners to identify new business opportunities and provide superior technical expertise to advisors and customers to price the risk appropriately.
  • Qualify underwriting files by understanding the needs and risk characteristics of the customer, ensuring benefits from both top-line and profitability perspectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships cross-functionally and with external stakeholders to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  • Act as a point of escalation for more junior underwriters to refer risks within established authority levels
  • Maintain the quality and profitability of the portfolio and refer all risks outside of established authority levels to the appropriate approver for review and actioning.
  • Provide insights on market research and analysis, develop business cases for pricing, coverage and product improvements.
  • Contribute to the introduction and communication of pricing, coverage and/or product changes from time to time, including creating uw bulletins, contributing to development of uw guidelines, etc.
  • Help identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends or other discrepancies
  • Participate in Quality Reviews and audits as required.
  • Support maintenance of a compliant UW environment in relation to guidelines and rules.

Job Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or relevant professional certifications, designations, or equivalent required
  • 10+ years relevant experience in commercial insurance

Proficiency in Other than French
This position requires proficiency in a language other than French to support or deal with customers who require services and support in a language other than French.
