Lightspeed is looking for talented and experienced Senior Java Developers to join their growing Payments team. As an individual contributor, you’ll deliver new features and improvements to Lightspeed’s Payments product - a global-scale platform that powers merchants all over the world. In Payments, you’ll be on the frontline of adding real-world value to our products, igniting our merchants’ businesses, and driving Lightspeed’s future success.
You’ll work within an experienced product team in a modern and evolving technology stack, taking features from the design stage through to final deployment. You’ll have a prominent voice in how we design and build our software and architecture, and will participate in vital production operations, including incident response. You’ll need to bring strong technical expertise, a growth mindset, experience in development best practices, and a passion for delivering the best possible product for our merchants.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Delivering features and improvements to Payments codebases, design to production
  • Breaking down items of work and leading other developers to deliver on those items
  • Finding technical improvements to your team’s services and infrastructure
  • Performing code reviews and providing clear, actionable feedback
  • Writing code with observability and monitoring in mind
  • Participating in technical design reviews
  • Building strong expertise in your team’s services and workflows
  • Providing mentorship and knowledge sharing to other developers
  • Participating in on-call rotation and incident management

What you’ll be bringing to the team

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong software engineering and computer science fundamentals
  • Strong programming skills in Java 8 or higher
  • Experience developing in other mainstream programming languages (TypeScript, JavaScript, PHP, Python, etc)
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.
  • Knowledge of modern architectural paradigms in distributed, event-driven systems
  • Experience leading initiatives and feature work through all stages of delivery
  • Experience writing technical specifications and architecture documentation
  • Experience in agile development best practices in a product team
  • Experience in mentorship of other developers and providing knowledge-sharing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Professional experience developing Spring Boot applications

  • Experience in reactive programming in Java
  • Knowledge of eCommerce / POS systems / Payments industry
  • Experience building scalable SaaS solutions
  • Experience in DevOps or as a sysadmin
  • Experience with modern front-end technologies like React and Next.js
