About This Opportunity
The role of Senior Laboratory Assistant within the CHEP team promises an exhilarating blend of technical expertise and operational support crucial for cutting-edge research endeavours. In this dynamic position, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring the smooth functioning of laboratory operations, contributing significantly to the maintenance of clinical sample collections, inventories, and routine analysis of human fluids and cells. Your responsibilities extend to collaborating with clinical teams, facilitating the receipt, processing, and storage of study materials and samples, while also delving into database management and development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline processes.
You’ll dive into the heart of research studies, assisting in major experiments and assays, spanning from in vitro assays to sophisticated molecular biology techniques like qPCR, flow cytometry, and microscopy. Your meticulous record-keeping and laboratory notebook maintenance will serve as the backbone of research integrity. Additionally, you’ll take charge of inventory management, ensuring a seamless supply chain and equipment upkeep alongside the CHEP Senior Laboratory Technician and Floor Laboratory Manager.
Your role will encompass diverse tasks, including preparing technical reports, managing operational budgets, and providing training and guidance to fellow lab members and students. This dynamic position promises a thrilling journey at the forefront of scientific exploration, where each day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth in the pursuit of ground-breaking discoveries.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 1 year. At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,396.47 - $86,029.78 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,553.87 - $100,654.84 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related discipline majoring in Biology, Biomedical sciences, Molecular biology, Immunology, or equivalent combination of training and previous laboratory research support experience.
  • Experience in working with biological samples including sample management, conducting/assisting in research experiments, SOP development and relevant report drafting.
  • Experience working in PC2 facilities with knowledge of and commitment to laboratory occupational health and safety.
  • High level of record keeping and organisation in a laboratory setting.
  • High level inter-personal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Self-motivated and ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and service expectations.
  • Previous experience in a similar role would be considered favourably.
