Job Description
About this opportunity:

The Everyday Banking legal team is part of the Consumer Division of the Legal & Secretariat Community. We challenge ourselves, and will welcome someone who’s curious, versatile and enthusiastic, and wants to work at the heart of the Everyday Banking business.

  • Your focus will be on the wide range of issues that affect personal bank and savings accounts.
  • This focus will include some product-related payment and delivery issues, where the Everyday Banking lawyers often work alongside and in collaboration with specialist colleagues in other legal teams.
  • You’ll also support transformation projects, assisting in the delivery of changes to products and services.
  • You’ll offer insightful legal expertise and commercial advice to business partners in Everyday Banking and their support areas, and facilitate the delivery of excellent outcomes for customers and for LBG. As part of this you’ll develop a good understanding of the personal bank and savings accounts offered by the different brands within LBG, including the systems they run on, plus some appreciation of common processes and customer journeys.
  • You’ll have technical knowledge of retail banking law, general consumer law, FCA principles and rules (including the Handbook, BCOBS and CONC), Payment Services Regulations, Payment Accounts Regulations, consumer credit (overdrafts), HMRC’s cash ISA rules and other requirements applying to the products and services we support, plus some appreciation of underlying industry arrangements such as the LINK schemes, Open Banking and banking services through Post Offices and banking hubs. This will include an understanding of the higher standards of customer treatment expected under Consumer Duty. (If you are not familiar with the detail of all of these, but have some relevant expertise, transferable skills and are keen to learn, we are also happy to consider your application.)
  • You’ll have sound legal, commercial and risk judgment.
  • You’ll build effective working partnerships and consensus across a variety of functions, proactively challenging, advising and influencing business managers on legal issues.
  • You’ll use your technical expertise and experience to provide specialist training or mentoring to others.
  • You’ll also be required to deputise for other lawyers, and may have from time to time some line management responsibilities.
  • You’ll thrive on challenge and be able to balance multiple competing demands.
  • You’ll collaborate with other legal teams and join Consumer Legal initiatives and Legal & Secretariat community projects.
  • We’ll look for you to focus on growing your own capabilities and investing in your personal development, including through opportunities within the team given our wide remit.

What you’ll be doing:
