Senior Lecturer in Food Process Engineering

Teaching undergraduate university students (second and third year level) in various topics in food processing, biological engineering and chemical engineering including mathematical modelling of processing operations, heat transfer and heat exchangers, fluid dynamics, pumping, Newtonian and non-Newtonian îuids, powder and particle technology. Including the application of these engineering principles in food process engineering in the food industry.

Job Requirements

• Prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials for food process engineering courses covering heat and mass transfer, mathematical modelling of process operations, fluid dynamics, pumping, Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, particle technology and applications. Applying engineering theory to various food industry applications.
• Able to solve complex mathematical problems with various software systems and programming skills
• Provide high quality lab instruction and guidance in various process engineering laboratory classes. Able to provide instruction and guidance on analysis of data and solution of mathematical problems in the laboratory and in class.
• Collaborate with academic and technical colleagues within the food technology department on the improvement of teaching activities and learning outcomes.
• An energetic and engaging personality able to motivate and inspires students to succeed
• Experienced in tertiary teaching different classes and able to provide timely and constructive feedback on student work.

Skills & Competencies

• Extensive teaching experience and ability to teach students in process engineering/chemical engineering while ensuring students are engaged and supported in their learning
• High level of mathematical skills
• Ability to solve complex mathematical problems from first principles or using support software packages
• Practical laboratory skills to be able to teach process engineering
• Excellent communication skills including good writing skills in English
• Competent working knowledge of computers and software systems such as, Matlab, Microsoft Excel and others
