WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You will bring a deep knowledge of film, television, and screen production methodologies and technologies. Your commitment to innovative teaching, leadership in fostering scholarly excellence, and ability to promote and develop research will be crucial to aligning resources with the strategic goals of the discipline and Faculty.

You will also have:

  • A PhD, Doctorate, or equivalent professional practice.
  • Demonstrated management skills, including inclusive decision-making, planning, budgeting, and resource distribution.
  • Strong commitment to teaching at all levels, innovation in curriculum design, and significant contributions to higher education.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of University policies and procedures, especially related to student and staff matters, curriculum, and wellbeing.
  • Proven leadership in fostering scholarly excellence, promoting research, developing research training, and effectively managing staff and community engagement.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will be an experienced academic with the ability to direct the artistic research and teaching in Film and Television as a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be appointed as Head of Film and Television for five years, contributing to curriculum development, resource management, and staff mentoring, while making significant contributions to teaching, research, and fostering research activities at national and international levels.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Represent and promote the interests of Film and Television within the VCA, Faculty, University, and the external community, including participating in relevant executive and committee meetings.
  • Maintain oversight of curriculum development, ensuring high-quality teaching, continuous improvement, and alignment with strategic plans, while managing staff and fostering their development.
  • Manage the financial performance of the discipline, including budget planning, expenditure monitoring, and revenue generation, while ensuring compliance with University policies and financial requirements.
  • Engage with educational and screen-industry bodies to inform strategic directions, establish industry links, and pursue research opportunities to enhance the discipline’s and University’s international standing.
  • Foster multidisciplinary collaboration, create a strategic research plan, maintain personal and departmental research excellence, mentor staff, seek international research opportunities, and supervise high-quality graduate research students.
