JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Legal and General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel will support the department in maintaining and monitoring Baycrest’s legal and contractual obligations and providing legal advice to advance Baycrest’s strategic and business objectives.
The Legal Services Department provides a full spectrum of legal services across the Baycrest enterprise and advises on legal, compliance, regulatory, governance and contractual issues.
We are seeking a service-oriented lawyer with strong conceptual thinking and decision-making skills, capable of managing a high volume of competing priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctorate and a Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum five (5) years’ post call experience in private practice, in-house or a combination thereof.
- Candidates should ideally have experience in corporate/commercial law.
- Experience in the areas of Privacy and Intellectual Property Law is an asset.
- Experience working in the healthcare sector and/or a research institute is also an asset
- Team player with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to multi-task competing priorities.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, address and manage legal needs in support of Baycrest’s business and strategic objectives through the provision of high-quality legal advice.
- Review, draft and negotiate contracts.
- Identify potential areas of legal risk/opportunity and make recommendations on risk tolerance and mechanisms to manage risk/opportunity.
- Provide legal advice and counsel on a broad range of issues including Health Law, Privacy, Regulatory, Intellectual Property, and support the various operations of Baycrest including the research institute.
