This NSW State government organisation is seeking a Senior Legal Officer to join its team on a 12 month fixed term contract basis.
Responsibilities:
YOUR NEW ROLE
The primary purpose of the Senior Legal Officer is to provide legal and policy advice and services to internal stakeholders to assist the organisation in meeting government obligations and to ensure compliance with the law. Reporting to the Director of Legal and working in a team of 8 other lawyers, your key accountabilities will include:
- providing advice on a broad range of matters including commercial law and contract reviews, privacy law, procurement matters, employment law and discrimination issues;
- advising the organisation on statutory interpretation matters;
- assisting in the management of compliance and enforcement matters;
- preparing research reports, briefing notes and submissions;
- conveying complex legal concepts in clear and accessible language to a diverse range of stakeholders;
- preparing accurate advice on complex and politically sensitive issues in very short timeframes;
- providing instructions to the Crown Solicitor’s Office for advice and representation, as required.
