POSITION SUMMARY

The Agile Coach – Team and Train lead conducting training and coaching efforts within CVS Health Digital’s Agile Transformation Office (ATO), primarily focused on trains (team of teams) and team agility. Team and Train Agile coaches participate in crucial conversations, help teach others strong facilitation techniques, and guide team and train leaders to find the best path for success. The Agile Coach must be a strong leader and advocate for the adoption of Lean-Agile methodologies and be enthusiastic about agile practices and their benefits. The coach partners with peers and functional leads to help improve operational health for a given set of teams. They are an important part of identifying where help is needed, and how best to bring Digital’s resources to bear to solve it. Includes reviewing & interpreting operational health metrics (i.e., flow, maturity, proficiency), identifying where help is needed, and then informing the action plan and tracking results. The Agile coach is a trusted advisor for teams and leaders on the Agile Release Train (ART), a team of teams (50-125 people) that plan, commit, develop, and deploy software together to deliver significant value to Digital’s end customers.

What You Will Do

  • Consult with leaders on the design requirements for the Agile implementation plan to guide teams through the transformation process
  • Coach and mentor teams on Agile methodologies to provide the foundational structure and support for scrum projects
  • Coordinate agile ceremonies and team meetings to ensure effective collaboration, communication and progress tracking
  • Counsel agile teams on techniques to identify and address impediments and foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Create strategies to integrate transparency and visibility into project progress reports to manage team and stakeholder expectations
  • Design and develop industry leading training and workshops to educate teams and stakeholders on agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, or Lean) and practices
  • Develop actionable insights from key performance indicators (KPIs) that reflect Agile success factors (team performance, and progress)
  • Develop the agile transformation plan to leverage technology, implement agile methodologies, and modify the current state of the organization
  • Direct geographically distributed teams on collaboration and communication tools such as instant messaging platforms and video conferencing tools to enable seamless communication

What We Expect of You

  • Mentor and coach teams and individuals (including junior coaches) in a transformation from waterfall to Agile by reinforcing principals learned through training and guide behavior towards adoption of Lean-Agile principles and practices. Be a servant leader that supports Agile coaching activities across teams and trains to quickly create spheres of influence. Relentlessly improve overall application of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) in partnership with Solution and Portfolio Coaches within the Digital ATO. Provide thought leadership and apply real life experience to support teams and trains in meeting their goals and relentlessly improving.
  • Lead and facilitate various training and workshop sessions for colleagues at all levels of the organization, aimed at introducing and sustaining department-wide adoption of Lean-Agile methodologies, driving forward the agile principles of CVS, DDAT (Digital, Data, Analytics and Technology) and Digital’s. Willingness to travel up to 5-10%
  • Lead agile assessments related to team and train maturity, assist in developing agile improvement backlogs, assisting team and train leaders in maturing their agile and lean execution skills as teams of teams.
  • Expert facilitator of Agile ceremonies, difficult conversations, and other critical meetings large and small, including large PI planning sessions, feature workshops, design thinking workshops, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of IT industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with Lean/Agile methodologies in a large organization
  • 3+ years of experience with collaboration tools such as Jira, Rally, Confluence/SharePoint, etc.
  • 3+ years of previous experience as a Scrum Master, Release Train Engineer, Development Manager or Agile Coach

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • SAFE Program Consultant (SPC) Certification
  • Scrum Master or Release Train Engineer (RTE) Certification
  • Experience coaching a transformation to Agility
  • Experience within a customer-centric environment with user-facing complex software solutions.
  • Previously taught SAFe or Scrum Alliance courseware
  • Experience training others in facilitation skills
  • Expert verbal and facilitation skills; Strong written communication skills

EDUCATION:

Bachelor degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience(HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
