POSITION DESCRIPTION

Senior Manager, Data Applications (Product Manager) will provide leadership and direction in the development, enhancement, maintenance, and support of SickKids enterprise data applications in order to provide clinicians, operation staff, and researchers with reliable, robust, and functionally-rich tools for data analysis, advanced analytics and machine learning that enable the achievement of the hospitals strategic objectives.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS DESIRED:

  • Familiarity with a broad variety of structured, semi structured and unstructured data sources from clinical and non-clinical applications (Patient EMR, Clinical imaging (DICOM), Genomics, HR, Finance) and the technologies that enable the development of pipelines to acquire data from these applications.
  • Great resilience to be able to quickly adjust to changing priorities, and address critical application issues.
  • Experience with developing and/or managing a data warehouse or data mart as part of a reporting or BI tool
  • Experience working with Cloudera or other data platform technologies, such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Impala, etc.
  • Experience with product management tools: Roadmapping and flowcharting; User survey and analysis tools; Project management tools (Smartsheet, Atlassian JIRA & Confluence); Collaboration and team messaging tools (O365 - MS Teams);
  • Strong knowledge of data engineering, data governance, data quality, data security, and data analytics concepts and best practices
  • A customer-centric and outcome-oriented mindset, with the ability to think strategically and creatively, and execute tactically and effectively
  • A passion for data and innovation, and a willingness to learn new skills and technologies

Responsibilities:

HERE’S WHAT YOU¿LL GET TO DO:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the staff including coaching, communicating, motivating, and educating to enable staff development in both their technical and people skills.
  • Manage all aspects of the recruitment of staff including developing job descriptions/postings, interviewing, selecting candidates, and on-boarding.
  • Collaborate with Senior Management in various departments to understand the needs and challenges that exist, identify opportunities, and prioritize projects to address these needs.
  • Develop business cases to support capital funding requests for projects, where required.
  • Ensure that the enterprise data and analytics platforms (Expedition data platform and Data warehouse application) are reliable and available for the clients by adhering to best-practice processes and controls to maintain, enhance, and support them.
  • Provide direction and management of the work of the delivery team responsible for developing solutions in situations where the functionality is not available in a vendor-licensed application, balancing the priority of functional enhancements, issue resolution and technical debt.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the team as they collaborate with our clients, vendors, and the other IMT teams (Technology Team, Network Team, Interface Team, Security Team, Service Management Office, Project Management Office, Enterprise Information Management) to address issues and upgrade/enhance our enterprise data and analytics platform and data warehouse application.
  • Manage vendor relationships to address system issues, contract negotiations, and invoicing discrepancies, and to keep abreast of the vendors product roadmaps. Provide expertise and advice on topics related to vendor products and solutions.
  • Manage finances for capital projects for which you are project manager, and verify and authorize invoices for service contracts and contract resources. Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Data Strategy, Operations and Planning to manage operational costs related to the staff on your team.
  • Define and track the key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for the data platform, and monitor its usage, performance, and quality
  • Establish the ongoing support model for end user training, and ensure operational documentation is available to operators of the platform.
  • Solicit and incorporate feedback from users, and continuously iterate and improve the product based on the user insights and data
  • Prioritize enhancements relative to other work - coordinating with delivery teams to balance the priority of functional enhancements, issue resolution and technical debt.
  • Liaise with data stewards for data domains across the organization to support data classification and data access policies and processes that govern how data is ingested into the enterprise data platform data catalogue.
  • Manage, measure and achieve a consistent user experience for data access, escalating issues and proposals to the Data Governance Committee.

The hospital makes significant investments in IT technology which leads to opportunities be involved with evolving technologies.
The Team that you would manage is quite diverse with roles ranging from Technical Leads and Data Engineers, Data Architects and Data Warehouse Specialists, to Report Developers, to IT Business Analysts, Project Coordinators and Analysts. In addition, there is need for tight collaboration with the other Information Services teams: Technology (Systems Administrator, DBAs), Network, Interface, PC Support, Project Management Office, Service Management Office, Information Security, Enterprise Information Management. You will also need to collaborate closely with other services within the Data Office Portfolio.
Employment Type: 1 year contract with health & dental benefits, 1.0 FTE (35 hours/week)
