JOIN A CHALLENGER

Being a traditional bank just isn’t our thing. We are big believers in innovating the banking experience because we believe Canadians deserve better options, and we challenge ourselves and our teams to creatively transform what’s possible in banking. Our team is made up of inquisitive and agile minds that find smarter ways of doing things. If you’re not afraid of taking on big challenges and redefining the future, you belong with us. You’ll get to work with people who will encourage you to reach new heights. We like to keep things fun, ask questions and learn together.
We are a big (and growing!) family. Overall we serve more than 370,000 people across Canada through Equitable Bank, Canada’s Challenger Bank™, and have been around for more than 50 years. Equitable Bank’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Concentra Bank, supports credit unions across Canada that serve more than 5 million members. Together we have over $100 billion in combined assets under management and administration, with a clear mandate to drive change in Canadian banking to enrich people’s lives. Our EQ Bank platform (eqbank.ca) has been named the top Schedule I Bank in Canada on the Forbes World’s Best Banks 2023, 2022, and 2021 lists.

Responsibilities:

THE CORE PARTS OF THE ROLE WOULD BE:

  • Data Development (60%)
  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to collect, transform, and load data from various sources into data storage systems or data warehouses efficiently and reliably.
  • Data Integration and Aggregation: Coordinate the integration and aggregation of risk data from various systems and sources. Ensure that data is collected, transformed, and consolidated accurately to provide a comprehensive view of risk across the organization. This may involve data mapping, data transformation, and data cleansing activities.
  • Data Modeling: Design and implement data models that facilitate efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis of data. This includes selecting appropriate data structures, defining schema, and optimizing data storage for performance.
  • Data Warehousing: Build and maintain data warehouses or data lakes that serve as centralized repositories for structured and unstructured data. Implement storage and retrieval strategies that enable fast and efficient data processing.
  • Data Transformation and Manipulation: Perform data transformation and manipulation tasks using programming languages and tools like SQL, Python, or R. Apply data processing techniques, such as aggregation, filtering, and joining, to extract meaningful insights from raw data.
-

Data Management (25%):

  • Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of risk data. Define data ownership, accountability, and data quality standards within the organization.
  • Data Architecture: Design and implement a robust data architecture that supports effective risk data aggregation and reporting. This involves defining data models, data flows, data sources, data transformation rules, and data integration processes.
  • Data Quality Management: Develop and implement data quality management frameworks to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of risk data. Monitor data quality metrics, perform data profiling, identify data quality issues, and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Data Lineage and Traceability: Establish data lineage and traceability mechanisms to track the origin, transformation, and usage of risk data. This helps in understanding the data’s journey and supports data validation and auditability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with regulatory guidelines, including BCBS 239, and ensure that data management practices align with these requirements. Prepare for regulatory audits and examinations related to risk data management.
