Job Description
This role is in the EU Government Engagement team in Brussels and entails helping to shape and drive a forward-looking strategy to ensure regulatory/policy frameworks are conducive to a fair, competitive, innovative, and successful operating environment for Visa’s current and future business. This role will report to the Head of EU Brussels office.
- Be a key contributor and owner in the EU Government Engagement team who together with EU and regional leadership is driving strategic ownership and initiating execution of a pro-active short/medium/long term strategy to strengthen Visa’s position.
- Delivering well-articulated succinct assessments of developments in the EU policy and regulatory landscape which highlight immediate risks and opportunities but also emerging trends that can affect the business in the medium/long term. Ensuring that these assessments include actionable recommendations and engagement strategies where necessary which are aligned with commercial objectives to drive positive business impact across these markets.
- Are confident working closely with the leadership and across the Europe region as a trusted advisor on subject matter and their engagement externally in policy matters where appropriate.
- Manage and continue to build trust-based dialogue with senior lawmakers, government officials, regulators, and policy makers in Brussels that may impact Visa’s business and to enhance Visa’s reputation and competitive position in these markets.
- Be comfortable managing multiple projects and take pride in strong execution with a flexible and positive attitude. The ability and willingness to participate in developing strategic positions on country and regional public and regulatory policy positions for Visa will be very important.
- When appropriate promote Visa’s reputation and profile where appropriate be confident speaking at public events, industry conferences, association committees and roundtables.
- Work closely with regional colleagues and GE leadership team in Europe on public engagement and communications activities.
- Contribute to devising holistic positions on key European and Global policy and regulatory matters, collaborating closely with the appropriate functions and teams internally. cognisant of potential global implications of local issues and coordinate their management with regional and global colleagues.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in regulatory or government agency law firm, consultancy, inhouse
- Some prior exposure to retail financial services or payment industry preferred with a strong digital
service and or technology interest.
- Excellent written and spoken communication abilities in English and knowledge of other European
languages is helpful.
- Knowledge of the electronic payments/banking industry, crypto, fintech market and respective
legislation in these markets
- Strategic advocacy and effective communication skills required.
- Proven ability to operate effectively and efficiently in a challenging, fast paced environment.
- Law, Economy or Political Science degree. Post graduate studies preferred
