Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the NuScale Power Module, a modular advanced light water reactor. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The Senior Manager of NSSS System Engineering is responsible for NSSS system design, piping and appurtenance design and analysis, and system thermal hydraulics. Manages, directs, and motivates reports to ensure assigned work is performed in accordance with applicable NuScale procedures and practices.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in an engineering discipline is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of full-time, progressively responsible experience, preferably in the power or nuclear industries, is required. 5 years plus experience in formal leadership position(s) desired. Most have a solid understanding of engineering and manufacturing projects and terminology based on past work. Strong technical writing and presentation skills and good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills are required. Understands the value of best practices and applies best practices and other tools to drive business results
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Management: Proven track record of managing staff from multiple disciplines and coordinating design interfaces to provide design solutions in a timely manner.
  • Skills: Strong technical writing, communication and leadership skills. Basic understanding of project management Information technology tools.

Pay and Benefits:
The target pay range for this position is $165,000 - $190,000 annually. The full pay range is $142,055 - $222,189.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical & Resource Management
  • Leads the NSSS System Engineering group of technical managers, engineers, and other direct reports to ensure assigned work is performed in accordance with applicable NuScale procedures and practices.
  • Provides cross-organizational communication and supports other departments.
  • Prepares and approves budgets and schedules for design activities, and critically monitors performance.
  • Approves statements of work for vendor support and interfaces with vendors as needed to ensure high quality results for contracted design scope.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and approves project estimates, forecasts, and schedules to ensure consistency with engineering standards and operating principles.
  • Act as the cost center manager for the department by developing and managing department budgets in line with company and project demands.
  • Maintains a focus on cost to develop an economically competitive design.
  • Remains informed of developing technologies and techniques associated with Engineering looking for creative ways of improving work processes.
  • Oversee and ensure leaders are recruiting and leading the development of staff.
  • Lead cross‐functional projects within area of responsibility.
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates.

  • Regularly communicates to the workforce important decisions and their bases, as a way of building trust and reinforcing a healthy safety culture.
  • Client Relationships
  • Assists business development personnel in client contacts to demonstrate the company’s capabilities.
  • Participates in project kick-off and alignment meetings.
  • Interfaces and coordinates with internal and external clients as required for successful project execution.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
