JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: (Senior) Manager Regional Access Germany
Report to: Head of Regional Access
Location: Germany

POSITION SUMMARY:

Apellis is preparing to launch pegcetacoplan, a targeted C3 inhibitor designed to regulate excessive complement activation, which can lead to the onset and progression of many serious diseases. Pegcetacoplan’s intended launch indication is in geographic atrophy, the late stage of dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
In this role, you will be responsible for providing hands-on support in executing key launch activities across the region and drive country-level regional and local market access tactics and initiatives to secure reimbursement of pegcetacoplan in geographic atrophy. In close cooperation with the sales, marketing and medical departments and in line with the overall commercial business strategy, you will outline and develop pharmaceutical service concepts and solutions to deal with key pharmaceutical market players, including hospitals, injecting ophthalmology groups and single practices, public pharmacies, sick funds, pharmacies’ associations, medical associations and health policy makers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or post graduate diploma, and ideally including an additional health economic background.
  • Expertise according to § 75 AMG (Pharmaberater Sachkenntnis)
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a related regional market access role within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in working with statutory health insurance, associations of statutory health insurance physicians and other healthcare stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge on the German pharmaceutical healthcare system (regarding legal pricing framework, HTA/benefit assessment and reimbursement framework, e.g. German drug law, G-BA regulations, social code book, regional and federal selective contracts or regulations on prescription of pharmaceuticals). Ophthalmology market knowledge is a definitive plus.
  • Confidence in interactions with relevant pharmaceutical stakeholders within German self-governing bodies.
  • Ability to influence and persuade external parties, proven track record in negotiations with external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, financial and communication skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, acts as good internal and external communicator. A representative appearance is essential.
  • Fluency in English
  • Flexible team member with positive attitude.
  • Ability to set right priorities and to work towards tight deadlines.
  • Regional home-office based role, with strong willingness to travel, mainly within the Germany and the DACH region

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify access-specific needs of health policy stakeholders, pharmaceutical decision makers and prescribers and develop tailor-made pharmaceutical solutions and services.

  • Establish and maintain a network amongst associations of statutory health insurance physicians, sick funds, health policy makers and opinion leaders.
  • Support listing of pegcetacoplan in geographic atrophy within the inpatient and outpatient sector and help capacity planning in outpatient injecting ophthalmology groups and single practices via relevant value-based argumentation and stakeholder interaction.
  • Prepare reimbursement argumentation and information material and execute training of sales force on market access-related topics.
  • Support sales force in all reimbursement matters, including but not limited to: supportive argumentation on the value, applicable usage and budget impact of pegcetacoplan in geographic atrophy, participating in regional ophthalmology network meetings, supporting applications for new examination and treatment methods (Neue Untersuchungs- und Behandlungsmethoden, NUBs) upon demand in the German inpatient sector and addressing reimbursement-related questions in ophthalmology groups and single practices.
  • Initiate and organize local/regional events and projects to support regional reimbursement activities.
  • Position and represent Apellis and pegcetacoplan in geographic atrophy in the best possible way towards all relevant healthcare bodies in the respective regional territories.
  • Keep abreast of early market opportunities and threats especially in regional markets, closely monitoring the competitive landscape, and addressing individual situations and challenges through creative concepts and solutions.
  • Acquire essential information about pharmaceutical developments within the German health care system at the earliest stage ("Horizon Scanning") and deliver relevant information by monitoring and identifying opportunities and threats in terms of regulation, assessment, specific terms of pricing and reimbursement.
