Senior Manager, S+N Academy, APAC based in Singapore

This role is responsible for leading the new innovative SN Academy and deliver quality Medical Education to the customers across the value chain.
The senior manager uses high-level understanding of the industry, clinical practice, and medical education to lead a team of professionals and drive regional medical education, strategy & digital transformation, and guide path for safe and effective adoption of S&N products and technology across Asia-Pacific for all franchises.
The position will also be responsible for owning the day-to-day operations of the Academy and ensuring its strategic importance in positioning S+N as the industry education leader in APAC. This position works in a close collaborative manner with the Procedural Training and AV team to ensure all visits are delivered in a best-in-class manner.
Key Responsibilities include leading academy strategy and overseeing operational aspects of the facility cadaveric lab, including processes related to the procurement of cadaveric tissue, capital, and consumable inventory management. This role will be heavily engaged with Medical Education, Commercial, R&D HSE and other external strategic partners in health technology space.
What will you be doing?

Overall S+N Academy Strategy & Team Management:

  • Lead overall Academy planning & strategy with Senior Director, APAC and develop robust course calendar for the academy addressing the customer learning needs in-line with key market assessment, SN vision, objectives, and commercial strategy.
  • Collaborate with global & regional medical education teams to share & learn standard methodologies thereafter Implement best practices in the region and cluster with focus on creating superior customer experience.
  • Design New & Innovative Courses with advance technologies to address the learning needs of the HCPs in-line with APAC Medical Education strategy working collaboratively with APAC & Cluster MedEd Leads.
  • Works close with Cluster, regional, global medical education teams and marketing partners staying ahead of product launches. Participates in early product training with the encouraged result of developing proficiencies to train employees and HCPs on innovative SN technologies through structured courses held at SN Academy.
  • Provide leadership and direction for all team members- Effectively lead & run the SN Academy team of Procedural Training Manager & Specialist, Event Support Coordinator, AV/IT specialist to efficiently implement the regional medical education strategy and programs in-line with annual objectives.
  • Provides mentorship and counselling to assist in continuous professional development. Monitor team performance & management in line with objectives & critical metrics set during annual reviews. Lead succession planning, skill development, capacity building & accountability. Perform Monthly/Quarterly Review on developmental goals and objectives.
  • Build an “outstanding” Academy Training team through recruiting, hiring, training, and developing personnel. Set direction and motivate team through timely annual objective building and associated reviews and developmental opportunities. Establish best practices across the team and franchises for the planning and execution of procedural skills training opportunities. Leads project teams to achieve achievements and objectives.

Overall Facility Management & Operations:

  • Aligns with Global Medical Education Operations leadership to ensure outstanding customer experience whilst strategically positioning the facility as a competitively differentiating and an industry-leading centre of excellence.
  • OPEX & CAPEX Management - Equipment and consumables forecasting and placement, creation of a comprehensive APAC based finance reconciliation system, OPEX, CAPEX will be key areas of focus.
  • Leading end to end Academy equipment and associated hardware & software maintenance and development.
  • Act as Key partner with global Procurement for cadaveric tissue vendor identification, selection, and RFP development. Works to align with facility and GBS partners to ensure Academies are equipped with technology required to deliver outstanding medical education. Partners with Finance to ensure chargebacks within the period time parameters.
  • Lead all aspects of Smith+Nephew Academy operations in Singapore. Update and maintain standard operating procedures. Maintains adherence to all HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) requirements including MSDS maintenance and site related recordkeeping. Ensure the training of all who will support the Academies and their adherence to the standards. Assist and influence with future site selection, design, equipment, management, construction oversight and effective operation of existing and prospective Academy locations in APAC.
  • Responsible for Bio-skills lab training sessions. Including organization and execution of specific activities; demonstration of advanced arthroscopic and orthopaedic techniques; product training on Smith & Nephew capital equipment, instruments, and implants.
  • Responsible for budget and supervising all activities associated with lab maintenance including facility upkeep, equipment upkeep (including yearly CER), maintaining supplies, specimen care, waste disposal, and maintaining all HSE requirements. Responsible for working with vendors for all supplies necessary to run the lab facility.
  • Carry out any reasonable requests and perform other duties as may be always required within the scope of the job title and work safely with due regard for health, safety, and environmental protection.

Driving Academy Collaboration with external stakeholders & educational Societies:

  • Collaborate with relevant customers to establish SN Academy as center of excellence and lead educational society relationships and key academic institutions for strategic partnerships, course accreditations, collaboration for training & education in Academy &

Other key markets in APAC:

  • Responsible for ensuring the facility has global alignment related to request and registration business processes, ensuring that we consistently gather necessary data and adhere to Compliance requirements and associated reporting. Responsible to complete and report out on facility period metrics.
  • To always act in a responsible manner to avoid risk to self or to the company and stay in sync with the workplace safety and health and security policy.
  • Any other duties involved within the role and/or the tasks as assigned from time to time

What will you need to be successful?

Success in the role will require a combination of technical knowledge, soft skills, and a deep understanding of both the business and service-providing sides of an organization. Successful candidates would need the following:

  • Degree in Medicine, Nursing or Allied Health, Master’s in business or Healthcare Management
  • Must have 8-10 years of experience in the field of healthcare or medical device, with a strong bias on strategy development and medical education.
  • Experience with preparing and/or handling cadaveric material, working with 3rd party suppliers and universal precautions.
  • Working understanding of medical education and training processes with at least 5 years’ experience with conducting medical based research or equivalent experience working with HCPs in the orthopaedic surgical setting or other clinical /laboratory setting will be preferred.
