Our team of professionals support Global and Regional Sustainability leadership in driving the sustainability and climate agenda; act as advisor and enabler to Business Functions in implementing the organisations sustainability strategy, as well as manage the implementation of Sustainability Execution Program in the Middle East.

Responsibilities:

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Work closely with Business Sustainability leads to plan and execute Sustainable Finance initiatives and strategies for the Middle East as a part of the Sustainability Centre of Excellence
  • Support the implementation of Sustainability Execution Program in MENAT by engaging with the relevant Group, Regional, and Country stakeholders.
  • Leading on reporting and disclosure of regional sustainable finance achievements to Boards and other senior level forums in addition to for annual reporting purposes.
  • Lead the co-ordination and execution of customer transition plan assessment activities across MENAT by actively collaborating with Group, Regional and Country Stakeholders
  • Supporting the business on regional climate policy, ESG disclosure (e.g., CDP, TCFD), Net Zero and responsible investing, working closely with the Head of Corporate Sustainability, Head of Climate Change and global Corporate Sustainability team to identify opportunities for sustainable finance growth.
  • Provide support and thought leadership to the business to support their engagement with clients in high carbon sectors and sustainability strategy.
  • Represent HSBC in technical working groups driving the wider regulatory environment on sustainable finance agenda in partnership with risk and lines of business.
  • Support in developing, implementing and administering high-impact, focused sustainable finance pipeline that promote thought leadership on relevant emerging topics including on the Just Transition
  • Lead connectivity between MENAT and Group on thought leadership product for Centre of Sustainable Finance, including driving a pipeline of global content linked to strategic commercial and philanthropic partnerships.
  • Manage external relationships with industry bodies, working groups and think tanks. Build, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, identifying and monitoring issues and campaigns, assessing and reporting reputational risk for HSBC.
  • Work with the businesses, communications, marketing, public affairs and other departments to effectively communicate sustainable finance activity across key internal and external channels.
  • Prepare executive briefings, support the delivery of staff training programs, coordinate speaking arrangements, support external communication campaigns, ensure representation at relevant industry events.
  • Collaborate and build relationships across internal businesses and functions to gain internal alignment and ensure understanding of the opportunities and risks associated with the transition to a low carbon economy in support of the Group strategy and implementation.
  • Drive a runway of engagement activities linked to progress and milestones linked to the delivery of the Sustainability Execution Programme including thought leadership HSBC events, participation in industry events.
    Requirements

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the areas of sustainability and/or sustainable finance
  • University degree or equivalent and relevant academic qualifications in sustainability
  • Understanding of the latest market, multilateral and regulatory developments of sustainability and transition to net zero in the context of banking and financial institution in the Middle East, especially UAE.
  • Possess knowledge in one or more topics essential to realizing HSBC’s climate ambition. This includes but is not limited to:
    Sustainable finance and climate-aligned finance
    Renewable energy
    Fossil fuels and carbon-intensive sector decarbonisation
    Nature, such as biodiversity, deforestation, nature-based solutions

    Carbon markets

  • Ability to network and foster key internal and external relationships to drive HSBC’s climate ambition, including delivery of climate strategy and capability building.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across cultures, seniority and lines of business and function
  • Knowledge of HSBC Commercial Banking and Global Banking and Markets products and services. Prior experience in frontline role a strong advantage
  • Good project management and analytical skills
