Description:
Ballard’s Manufacturing Engineering Team has a position available for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in our new Burnaby facility. The successful candidate should have a track record of leading projects and developing/implementing new processes and equipment in a high volume automotive sector. Experience in process design and continuous improvement projects using tools and methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, QFD, FMEA, DOE, SPC, and Error Proofing is preferred. Customer focused, Entrepreneurial, Tenacious, are characteristics of the person in this role.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Manufacturing or Mechanical preferred)
- P. Eng. registration in British Columbia preferred
- 5 + years directly related experience in a hands-on manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of fuel cells and/or thermodynamics, electrochemistry and fluid mechanics is an asset.
- Experience using APQP elements – PFMEA, Process Flow, Control Plan.
- High volume manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Experience in automotive industry and familiarity with quality system requirements such as PPAP, SPC, MSA preferred.
- Experience in assembly line balance, lean manufacturing, and DFMAS.
- Hands-on experience working and troubleshooting electromechanical systems is an asset.
- Experience in tooling design
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization skills with technical leadership, and coaching/mentoring skills
- Proficient with analytical tools (Excel, Minitab, etc.)
The typical hiring range for this position is $93,840 – 117.300. Ballard considers many factors in determining total compensation, including the successful Candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity. Responsibilities:
- Oversees the specification, procurement, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment.
- Establishing NPI processes with PPAP, SPC and MSA.
- Design, develop, implement, validation, and troubleshoot new and existing manufacturing processes;
- Design, specify and commission tools, jigs, fixtures, and tests.
- Identify and justify projects to improve manufacturing capability, yields, productivity and capacity;
- Manage drawings, shop floor work instructions/build sheets, process flows, plant layouts, material handling and quality control systems.
- Process transfer and duplication between facilities.
- Acts as a technical mentor to junior technical staff by teaching/coaching others in area of expertise.
- Estimates budgets for each project including cost of personnel and materials.
- Interfaces with related departments on issues affecting functional area or project.
- Mentoring younger engineers in the team
