QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Minimum of a high school diploma and minimum of five years’ experience in the operation of shop equipment and automotive repair, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the required knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE OF JOB

Performs responsible, skilled mechanical work on a variety of motor vehicles and heavy/light equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Operate specialized automotive testing equipment in the diagnosis of mechanical problems on various types of light and heavy motor equipment.
  • Perform brake jobs, repair and overhaul differentials, repair front and rear axle assemblies, air conditioning systems, cooling systems, and other vehicle repairs.
  • Service, repair, and weld mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, concrete saws, and other light equipment.
  • Perform diversified electrical work on automotive equipment, such as troubleshooting electrical problems and repairing or replacing defective parts.
  • Generate a proper timeline with estimated repair schedule and communicate repair options to the customer and/or supervisor.
  • Create and maintain work orders on equipment, automobiles, etc. for shop records.
  • Repair and/or replace worn parts ahead of breakdown or damage of vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Assist in the oversight and operation of the city’s fuel purchasing and distribution system.

OTHER JOB DUTIES

  • Respond to after-hours and emergency calls when on-call as required.
  • Serve as Fleet Manager in his/her absence.
  • Perform other related work as required.
