Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Media Advisor sits within a small, fun, and collaborative team that engages national, state and local news media to deliver campaigns, events and stories that support the Heart Foundation’s strategic objectives.
This exciting and dynamic role will present you with the opportunity to play a key role in continuing to elevate the voice of the Heart Foundation on matters critical to the prevention and management of heart disease.
This role will ideally suit an experienced media and/or public relations professional who is not frightened to think outside of the box and is comfortable in challenging the status quo where there are opportunities to improve systems and processes.

You will be empowered to make an impactful difference to the Heart Foundation through meaningful and challenging work. Specifically, you will coordinate the following activities with guidance & support from the Media & Communications Manager.

  • Maintain and update the organisation’s pipeline of story ideas, ensuring that media activities are aligned with broader organisational objectives.
  • Proactively pitch stories to health reporters and secure quality and timely media coverage across various platforms.
  • Coordinate responses to media inquiries, working as part of a small team to do so efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist the Media and Communications Manager with regular reporting on outcomes.
  • Maintain and expand a robust network of media contacts
  • Play a lead role in crafting and distributing press releases, media briefings, and informational kits as required.
  • Provide senior management with strategic counsel relating to external communication risks and opportunities.
  • Assist with the provision of media training and support to designated spokespeople.
  • Manage the relationship with our media monitoring provider and be accountable for sharing relevant media alerts with key internal stakeholders.
