Australia is regularly affected by severe weather events. These events are growing in frequency and severity, leading to increased economic impact, vulnerability, and potential magnitude of harm.
The focus of the Hazard Preparedness and Response (HPR) program is to build resilience within the Australian emergency management sector. As part of the Decision Support Services (DSS) Program, we work closely with emergency management partners to support preparation for, response to, and recovery from disasters and emergencies. We provide specialist advice through knowledge sharing, collaborative action and the development of strong relationships built on mutual trust and respect.
As a senior meteorologist in the Victorian Hazard Preparedness and Response team you will work alongside other state and territory based HPR and Community Engagement staff and connect seamlessly with your colleagues in the National Production, Environmental Production and Business Solutions teams. You will be a key contact for our critical sector partners with a focus on supporting emergency management across Victoria. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to help grow the Bureau’s HPR capabilities in support of our emergency management partners.
You will demonstrate a curiosity and comprehensive understanding of how climate, ocean, weather, and flood impacts on the emergency management sector. You will have a deep understanding of meteorology with a complementary knowledge, or ability to develop in hydrology, oceanography, and climatology.
During extreme weather events, this team is expected to undertake extended working hours.
