EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Red Seal Certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.
  • Extensive experience with heavy mining equipment and ancillary machinery used in open pit coal mining, including shovels, drills, haul trucks, loaders, dozers, and excavators.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a mining or similar heavy industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in environmental management practices, especially in spill avoidance, containment, and reporting, reflecting a commitment to environmental stewardship.
  • Valid Mine Supervisor Certificate or eligibility for a Provisional Mine Supervisor Certificate.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts on a 7x7 rotation.
  • Proficient in English communication, essential for clear and effective team leadership, safety compliance, and operational coordination.
  • Thorough understanding of mine equipment safety and maintenance standards, ensuring a high level of operational safety and equipment integrity.
  • Leadership, mentoring, and communication skills, vital for building a cohesive, efficient, and motivated maintenance team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail, enabling effective troubleshooting and maintenance strategies.
  • The ability to build strong relationships and foster a culture of safety, integrity, and teamwork, essential for maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, alongside the capacity to quickly adapt to computer software programs necessary for managing employee administrative tasks such as timecards, vacation requests, and leaves.
  • Demonstrated stress and time management competencies, crucial for managing the demands of a dynamic and sometimes high-pressure work environment.
  • A motivational leadership style that encourages team engagement and drives the achievement of safety and operational targets, contributing to a positive work culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the maintenance team in the timely and efficient upkeep of Conuma’s fleet of mobile mining equipment, prioritizing safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repair processes for heavy mining equipment and ancillary machinery, ensuring strict adherence to all safety, environmental, and technical standards.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to the team, offering guidance during complex maintenance tasks and fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Cultivate a strong culture of safety by actively involving the team in safety programs and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations.
  • Efficiently schedule and oversee a diverse team of maintenance personnel to optimize equipment availability and minimize downtime, aligning maintenance activities to support company objectives and production goals.
  • Collaborate with the planning team to maintain preventive maintenance schedules and manage repairs, ensuring equipment is kept in peak operating condition.
  • Promote effective teamwork and communication across all levels of the organization, ensuring team members possess the necessary skills and training for their roles.
  • Lead and conduct daily morning meetings to discuss priorities, safety topics, and operational updates, ensuring a cohesive and informed workforce.
  • Manage maintenance contractors, ensuring external teams meet Conuma’s standards and effectively support maintenance objectives.
  • Conduct incident investigations, maintain detailed maintenance records, and support departmental improvements to boost operational efficiency, cost management, and environmental compliance.
  • Resolve, document, and escalate personnel issues as appropriate, maintaining a productive and respectful work environment.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
