Description:

King’s College Hospital has a large Therapy department with over 200 therapists from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy. Each service is organised under a Head of Profession with a Chief of Therapies heading up the service and representing Therapies across the Trust. The department has a well-established tradition of supervision and appraisal which ensures all staff are given the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge and to reach their full potential.
The Hand Therapy Outpatients department is based across King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust sites. You will join an enthusiastic and dedicated team, which includes Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, offering an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a supportive and friendly learning environment.
Due to the continued development of this department, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist/ Physiotherapist to work in the Hand Therapy department. The role may require some cross site working at Denmark Hill and Beckenham Beacon to help meet the demands of the service.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential to facilitate the management of plastic surgery, orthopaedic and rheumatologic hand conditions. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical, teaching, managerial and research skills. You will also play an important role in the department’s service development programme. There is a well-structured in-service program, an established journal club and weekly meetings with the Orthopaedic Consultants. There are also regular opportunities to apply for funding if you wish to attend any courses.
You must have a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy and be HCPC registered.

EDUCATION:

To review and reflect on own practice and performance through effective use of professional and operational supervision and appraisal.
To instruct and supervise Band 5 therapists, therapy Students and therapy Assistants and Technicians according to their training and development needs, as identified through regular supervision and performance appraisal.
To demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate current research, apply them to practice and disseminate findings at a local level.
To broaden research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects.
To demonstrate ongoing personal and professional development through participation in internal and external development opportunities, recording outcomes in a portfolio.
To keep in touch with new developments and changing trends in hand therapy and participate in wider issues of providing a therapy service i.e. quality assurance, public relations including liaison with the community; planning and policy making.
To demonstrate leadership skills through the management of designated projects.
To participate in and present on the in-service training programmes, multi-disciplinary trainings and external conferences.
To undertake any other duties commensurate within the grade.
