Description:

Undertakes individual patient assessment, care planning and implements effective occupational therapy treatment and discharge, which is responsive to patients needs and at the same time supporting their equality, diversity and rights. Liaises with appropriate external agencies, services (e.g. adult social care, ICES, wheelchair services) and other health colleagues, to ensure referrals are made timely, in order that patients needs are met. Ensures that problem orientated treatment records are maintained and updated to accurately reflect occupational therapy intervention, in line with professional standards as laid down by the College Of Occupational Therapists.
Communicates effectively in an appropriate manner, complex information to patients, relatives and staff, concerning assessment and treatment, to ensure that patients are adequately informed, are able to consent to the intervention and are able to ask questions and raise concerns. Develop and maintain close, purposeful communication and liaison with all members of the multi-professional team to enhance the quality of patient care and to promote the effective use of resources. a) Motivates and supports other members of the occupational therapy team in conjunction with the Specialist Senior Occupational Therapists. b) Provides formal clinical supervision for qualified/non-qualified Occupational Therapy Staff within the appropriate clinical team as required.
c) Participates in the recruitment and induction of new staff as required. Contributes to the development and implementation of new practices and procedures to ensure the continued development of high quality patient care. Initiates and implements changes to service/policy within the therapy team based on best practice. Undertakes reflection of own practice and ensures the continued development of clinical expertise and professional knowledge through attendance at relevant postgraduate training sessions and courses, maintaining a personal development portfolio and liaising closely with medical staff and colleagues to ensure clinical competency is achieved, maintained and developed.
Participates in audit and research to evaluate the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the service provision and to implement change where identified. Completes practice placement educators course and offers clinical placements to Occupational Therapy undergraduate students and maintains university accreditation to take students. Is aware of and works within all Health and Safety guidelines and policies related to manual handling, infection control, personal safety, risk management and confidentiality and shows due regard for others in the working environment. Ensures timely submission of required statistical information that accurately reflects their clinical activity.
Helps to maintain a tidy and organised work area and reports and faulty equipment. To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably regarded as within the nature of the duties, responsibilities and grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that appropriate training is given and that wherever possible significant changes of a permanent nature shall be mutually agreed and incorporated into the job description in specific terms and the post re-evaluated if the change is likely to result in a job evaluation score change
