Description:

As a Lead Database Administrator, you will be joining the Database Operations team providing technical leadership to a team of DBA’s supporting a large Oracle portfolio with additional Microsoft SQL Server and AWS database technologies. You will work with application developers, fellow DBA’s, and IT leadership to improve the efficiency, resiliency, production stability, automation, and reliability of Vanguard’s database infrastructure. The Database Operations team is responsible for ensuring the operational excellence of Oracle, SQL Server, and cloud data platforms. The team is also responsible for architecture, upgrades, administration, performance and tuning, automation, and feature/function research and development for database infrastructure.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of:

  • DBA best practices and concepts: database backup & recovery, database performance tuning, database monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Expert knowledge of Oracle
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server and other contemporary relational DBMS platforms.
  • Strong experience in AWS Cloud (Postgres, DynamoDB and RedShift.
  • Troubleshoot complex systems to identify bottlenecks (SQL, IO, hardware, query related, etc.) and resolve database related issues.
  • Ability to support multiple releases, including latest versions of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Designing databases and data modeling concepts.
  • Strong automation and scripting skills; PowerShell, Shell Scripting, PL/SQL, T-SQL, etc.
  • Great communication and documentation skills that leads to internal problem resolutions documents, lessons learned, how to, and knowledge transfer.
  • Strong skills with troubleshooting, researching and resolving blocking/deadlocking, connectivity issues, data corruption, security issues etc.

EXPERT ORACLE SKILL SET SHOULD INCLUDE:

  • Expert DBA in database development and supports Oracle’s latest versions on a Linux platform.
  • Strong experience in AWS Cloud (Postgres, DynamoDB and RedShift.
  • Strong skills using Bash/Korn shell scripting & PL/SQL for automation of database administration tasks and notifications.
  • Robust experience with High Availability using RAC and Disaster Recovery using Data Guard.
  • Expert at troubleshooting and resolving database integrity, blocking/deadlocking, connectivity issues, security issues, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of RMAN for backups and recovery using a catalog.
  • Robust experience using OEM 13c for monitoring & alerting.
  • Knowledgeable of the Linux environment.
  • Experience with advanced Performance Tuning.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle tools, (Toad, SQL Developer, OEM, OID, etc.).
