About the Role:
As the Senior Originator for Power, Environmental and Carbon, you will be responsible for leading the negotiation of both long term and short term commercial agreements. These transactions will align with AGL’s wholesale portfolio value and risk management objectives and contribute to our Climate Transition Action Plan. Origination combines a broad range of skills across business development, negotiation, commercial, project development, corporate finance and critical analysis of market dynamics. Transactions will involve buying and selling of commodities through both physical and derivative agreements, with deal sizes up to $2B and durations of up to 15 years.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Originating contracting opportunities to fulfill AGL’s strategic objectives to transition to a low carbon portfolio
  • Lead complex and bespoke negotiations, document transactions and implementation of commercial arrangements. Typical transactions will range from $30m to $200m. Transactions will cover power purchase agreements, offtake agreements, energy storage agreements, carbon agreements, and complex customer sales contracts,
  • Managing relationships with market participants, customers, project developers and market operators
  • Providing guidance to other teams within Integrated Energy, Environmental Energy Trading Team, Power Trading and Treasury Risk, Corporate Development and Finance
  • Develop business cases to support transactions with the support of the analytical team, working with a wide range of internal stakeholders to bring deals to fruition
  • Managing supply agreements existing in the portfolio, including establishing processes to enforce contract specifications and resolve conflict where breaches or non-compliance occur.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for AGL to expand its activities in existing markets

About You:
You will ideally have an existing network of strong relationships and a deep understanding of the wholesale energy market and contracting arrangements through your extensive experience in the commercial sector.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Finance, Engineering or another quantitative discipline
  • Experience leading large complex negotiations in the wholesale energy market and/or carbon markets
  • The ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships at all levels
  • Experience developing strategies to balance risk and return and reduce procurement costs
  • The ability to understand complex analytical concepts
  • Highly skilled negotiator, with advanced communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the wholesale power market and risk management
  • Extensive complex contract negotiation and contract management experience
