About the job
We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Senior Packaging Technologist as part of our Research and Innovation team for the Essential Dairy Product (EDP) business. This role could either be based in our plant in Kiewa or Melbourne head office depending on the preference of the candidate.
Reporting to the EDP Research and innovation & Sustainability Manager, you will drive complex projects across development of new packaging solutions and ongoing packaging projects, within the business objectives, cost, quality, and time. A key area of focus is the delivery of our packaging sustainability road map. This role will support our industrial capex projects and involves interaction with cross-functional teams, suppliers and other consultants.

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead packaging development projects inclusive of packaging scoping, development, specification development, validation, and implementation.
  • Support the delivery of Danone and Saputo’s (DSDA) sustainability strategy by leading the execution of the packaging sustainability initiatives.
  • Drive the complete pack improvement, productivity, compliance, and secure supply project in collaboration with the cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders like manufacturing, production, quality, marketing, and supply chain to achieve sustainability and business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with global and local packaging development management tools of innovation/renovation projects from concept to launch.
  • Collaborate effectively with the wider packaging industry communities as a key point of contact and have thorough exposure and understanding of industry regulations around packaging.

About you
You are an experienced R&I professional with sound exposure to packaging profile handling complex and sustainable packaging projects. You have great cross-functional collaboration skills, sound influencing skills, and an inclusive working style with strong stakeholder engagement capabilities. Your prior experience in a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment in a similar role will be highly advantageous. You have a positive attitude, easy to get along with, and above all enjoy taking on responsibilities and new challenges.

To be successful you will also have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Packaging Engineering/Food Technology/Science or related field.
  • Prior experience in FMCG is desired.
  • Sound experience of working in a highly regulated industry.
  • Experience in the new packaging development process is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills with an ability to work with shifting priorities.
