Job Description
Reporting to the Director, Payroll & Benefits, the Sr. Manager, Payroll will lead the optimization of Payroll processes, procedures, and systems, working in partnership with peers.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.

Accountabilities

  • Oversee accurate, timely, and efficient payroll administration, and processing for assigned client groups.
  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to payroll administration processes.
  • Document payroll processes and identify efficiencies.
  • Identify and address payroll administration risks, including ensuring payroll practices comply with legal requirements, tax regulations, and industry standards.
  • Document procedures and internal controls to ensure accuracy & integrity of payroll. Complete all audits and associated outcomes.
  • Collaborate with HR Systems team to troubleshoot and resolve payroll system issues and enhance and optimize payroll systems.
  • Train and coach, the payroll team on process and system efficiencies.
  • Create an annual calendar of key payroll activities and accountabilities and engage peers across HR to proactively action activities.
  • Ensure sufficient and current documentation is in place to account for and explain critical payroll tasks, systems, and business continuity.
  • Review payroll escalations, identify root cause, and create action plans to address deficiencies.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management regarding payroll metrics and trends.
  • Identify, implement, and maintain automated payroll processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree. Preferably in Finance or Business Administration
  • Minimum 10 years progressive payroll experience, PCP or CPM designation preferred. 3+ in management role.
  • Strong knowledge of CRA rules, and regulations and payroll tax laws across Canada
  • Experience with Workday required.
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in optimizing payroll processes and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative style
  • Proven analytical mindset and ability to use metrics to guide and monitor progress.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and ability to recognize and respond to changing priorities.
  • Experience with Canada payroll audits.
