The Role:
As a Senior PET/CT Diagnostic Radiographer with us, you’ll play a pivotal role in being responsible for undertaking routine and complex diagnostic PET/CT and Diagnostic CT investigations with a high standard of technical skill and patient care, while working in accordance with departmental protocols and procedures.
In this role you will also be a key member of the Theranostic team, where you will perform tasks necessary in the work-up of Theranostic patients, as well as clinically involved in the administration Theranostics treatments. This PET/CT department is active in seeking new services and treatments available within the growing global Nuclear Medicine environment.

What You’ll Do:

Your key responsibilities:

  • Perform venepuncture and cannulation for administration of radioactive substances whilst working under local and legislative practices.
  • Ensure the results of all imaging procedures are of the required standard as per the departmental quality system.
  • Ensure the performance of complex imaging equipment within PET/CT is of sufficiently high quality for purpose by carrying out daily QA.
  • To support the department’s Quality Assurance programme.
  • Provide routine advice to patients undergoing administration of radioactive materials as well as to staff or relatives providing care to such patients, to ensure the risks of exposure to ionising radiation are understood by the concerned parties.
  • To organise routine/urgent work to optimise and maintain the throughput of patients in the department.
  • To ensure all activities are carried out with the Clinic and the Department’s quality framework and in adherence to statutory regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act, Local Rules, Standard Operating Procedures, and approved codes of practice in particular IR(ME)R and the use of radioactive substances.
  • To comply with the Department’s Local Rules and Radiation Protection Policies.
  • To promote safe working practices and the system of risk identification is maintained.
  • To ensure the equipment and accessories are correctly stored, used and maintained and to report any faults to the Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Support an environment for all staff to work effectively, using the GenesisCare Values as the benchmark for this.
  • Support the Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the implementation of new services.
  • Maintain safe and effective working practices, including the operation of equipment and systems in use in the centre.
  • Ensure all patients experience the highest levels of service, in line with the agreed expectations for treatment within GenesisCare centres.
  • Act in agreement with the relevant GenesisCare clinical audit, radiation protection, quality assurance and health and safety requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with all key stakeholders including patients and their carers, clinicians and their colleagues, partnership organisations and suppliers.
  • Pro-actively maintain own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with GenesisCare and the HCPC/RCT professional standards.
  • Adhere to company standards in respect of appearance, behaviour and demeanour at all times.
  • Work in accordance with the CQC (Care Quality Commission) and EA (Environmental Agency) frameworks.
  • Ensure flexibility in out of hours working if required.

What You’ll Have:

Experience and skills:

  • Able to demonstrate at least 3 years post qualification experience with progressive development in that time
  • Experience in all aspects of PET/CT and Diagnostic CT scanning to a very high level of competence
  • Knowledge and experience with Theranostic treatments such as 177Lu-PSMA and 223-Radium is desirable
  • Broad knowledge of radiopharmaceutical characteristics, as well as production requirements
  • Knowledge of UK legislation necessary for working with a Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT department
  • Evidence of empathetic and a holistic approach to patient care

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • DCR (R) or BSc (Hons) in Radiography (or equivalent), or BSc (Hons) in Nuclear Medicine with Diagnostic CT accreditation
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of intravenous cannulation training
  • Evidence of recent endeavours for continuing professional development
  • A strong level of understanding of the legislation relating to Ionising Radiation/Radiation Protection, Environment Agency, and Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of medical terminology and drug/medication names/disease pathways encountered in Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and Theranostics
