We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative and enthusiastic pharmacy technician to work within of our established clinical pharmacy technician team, supporting the delivery and development of our medicine’s management service.
The Trust is opening a new Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre in September – this will be a new ‘Super-Green’ building housing three laminar flow theatres, a 14-bed inpatient ward and a 10-bed day case ward. This unit will help to expand delivery of orthopaedic surgery across Kent, Medway and East Sussex

The successful post holder will work in this new unit as part of our clinical service and across our other wards. Other specialities on site include; admissions, hyper-acute stroke unit, respiratory medicine, cardiology, elective surgery, ITU and frailty. Daily duties will include delivering a high-quality clinical service to these specialist areas.
You must be up to date with current changes in the NHS especially with respect to medicines optimisation, as this is a key role in the delivery of current and future clinical ward services. The role will include developing medicines optimisation at ward level, ward-based discharge and dispensing, informing patients about their medicines and developing new ways of working to help prevent admissions and re-admissions.
You will be confident about training and will strive for excellence in the training provided within clinical services. You will work with supporting the chief pharmacy technicians in medicines management and education and training, in the delivery of training programs, for pharmacy technician career progression within clinical services.
We are an enthusiastic and dynamic team. The clinical pharmacy team have a full patient centred role and are supported by an efficient dispensary and stores technician led service. We have a high focus on patient safety, medicines optimisation and efficient ways of working to ensure a high-quality service. We believe further education and training is essential to maintain excellent services; providing supervised placements for year two and three pharmacy undergraduates at Medway school of Pharmacy.
This post is based within the main pharmacy at Maidstone hospital, which has a fully automated dispensary, and excellent training facilities. Department resources include; access to an electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) system, utilisation of electronic discharge prescriptions, electronic inpatient transcription requests, TTO tracker, summary care record and wireless laptops to facilitate our work. We have also implemented the electronic sharing of discharge prescriptions with community pharmacists through the use of PharmOutcomes, with the aim to aid facilitation of the Discharge Medicine Service.
