Senior PHP developer

For a client of expertech we are currently looking for 2* senior PHP developers to work on a bespoke Fintech platform. The first six months in this role will be predominantly focused around getting to understand platform and resolving 2nd line support tickets. Hereafter there will be more of a focus on improving the platform and developing new features. This is a Hybrid role that offers flexibility with 2 days from the office and 3 days from home.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in software development, with a focus on PHP and/or Java.
• Relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, SQLServer)
• Unit Testing frameworks (e.g., PHPUnit)
• MVC Frameworks (e.g. Symfony, Laravel)
• JavaScript/TypeScript and Bootstrap
• BitBucket/Git and Jira
• RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
• Cloud platforms (ideally GCP, or AWS)
• Knowledge of non-relational databases (Redis, MongoDB)
• Comfortable working in a distributed team environment
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
• Strong understanding of secure coding practices and scalable solutions
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently
• Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Preference will be given to individuals who pose a strong financial services domain knowledge, in particular around alternative assets.

• Collaborate with a distributed team of developers using Agile methodologies.
• Design, implement, support, and document solutions for our platform, focusing on security, analytics, and performance management.
• Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code following best practices.
• Conduct code reviews for junior developers and participate in peer reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards.
• Run and analyse test scripts to ensure code quality and identify potential issues.
• Resolve critical code issues promptly and efficiently.
• Provide second-level support for resolving technical issues, troubleshooting software bugs, and optimizing system performance.
• Collaborate with QA engineers to identify test cases, automate test scripts, and ensure thorough test coverage.
• Work closely with various departments, including operations, Finance, Sales and marketing, to understand their business needs and and propose technical solutions.
• Participate in any planning, scrum ceremonies to ensure effective communication and collaboration within the development team.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in PHP, Java, and software development methodologies.
