TE WHIWHINGA MAHI | THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an experienced NZ Registered Physiotherapist to work within our General Medicine team based at Auckland City Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist wanting to develop their leadership capabilities. In this role you will carry a clinical caseload, providing comprehensive and evidence-based care to General Medicine patients within the inpatient setting. In addition to your clinical caseload, you will play an active role in quality improvement within the General Medicine area, provide day to day coordination and leadership within the general medical team and take on delegated responsibilities from your practice supervisor as and when required. This role works closely with both our AED/CDU and Falls & Frailty teams, and you may also have the opportunity to learn and cross cover other specialities within the wider acute service including Oncology, Respiratory and Cardiothoracics.

This role is based at Auckland City Hospital and we offer a permanent, full-time position 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week). This key role is an ideal opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist wanting to develop their leadership capabilities and advance their skills in:

  • Implementing evidence-based practice and service development
  • Motivating, guiding and developing staff
  • Clinical leadership

This role will also see you performing the following duties:

  • Manage a clinical caseload while providing day-to-day coordination and support to a small team of core and rotational staff.
  • Provide comprehensive service to our General Medicine patients including
  • Play an active role in quality improvement and service development
  • Work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Participate in our weekend and on-call roster

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • New Zealand registration as a Physiotherapist with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • 4+ years post-graduate experience including clinical experience in acute care, essential to have a broad range of acute care skills such as respiratory, neurological, and frailty care.
  • A flexible, proactive and can-do approach with experience supporting staff and students
  • Excellent clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence-informed practice
  • Evidence of establishing and developing working relationships within the wider MDT
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to provide culturally safe care in the acute hospital environment
