The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Policy and Project Officer to provide a critical role within Corrections and Justice Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Policy and Project Officer role sits within Policy, Strategy and System Outcomes (PSSO) within the PSOO business unit. PSSO provides strategic advice and develops policy to improve rehabilitation and reintegration outcomes for people across the corrections system, including in prisons and community corrections. This is a critical component of the department’s strategy to reduce offending, keep people out of prison and contribute to community safety.
Reporting to a Manager, the Senior Policy and Project Officer is responsible for contributing to the development of significant state-wide policy and priority projects in response to emerging issues with a focus on the needs of prisoners and offenders in the community.
Core to being successful in this role will be your ability to understand new subject matter quickly, demonstrate appropriate initiative, and your capacity to write accurate, timely and audience-appropriate strategic documents, briefings and issues papers.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Provide insightful policy analysis and advice, including the identification of emerging issues, opportunities, risks and trends impacting on the achievement of key government initiatives.
  • Research, analyse, prepare and present comprehensive written materials including solutions focussed reports, briefings, papers and presentations on policy and program issues and options for senior management, departmental executives, government and other key stakeholders.
  • Proactively build and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and facilitate a partnership approach to working across the department, across government and with the community.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Sound knowledge of Victorian Government administrative process.
  • Exposure to significant or complex program or policy initiatives.
  • Knowledge of current policy direction, research and issues within corrections and the criminal justice system more broadly, or the ability to understand these issues quickly.
  • Developed conceptual, policy and analytical skills with ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues
