ABOUT US

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is South Australia’s independent environment protection regulator. The organisation works to protect, restore and improve the environment through the risk-based regulation of pollution, waste, noise and radiation. The EPA works closely with industry, the community and government to protect the unique natural environment while supporting economic growth and improving wellbeing. The EPA is responsible for the administration of the Environment Protection Act 1993 (EP Act) and the Radiation Protection and Control Act 2021 (RPC Act) and also exercises responsibilities under other South Australian planning and environmental legislation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications such as environmental management, science or law, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing environmental policy.
  • Knowledge of processes for the development of legislation.
  • Knowledge of the waste and resource recovery sector.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Policy Officer is accountable to the Principal Adviser Regulatory Strategy and Intelligence and works within the Circular Economy and Waste branch.
The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for the provision and coordination of high-level advice to the Environment Protection Authority and the Government on policy and legislation relating to environmental management issues, with a focus on circular economy and waste management. This involves the initiation, planning, coordination and implementation of processes for the review and formulation of environmental policy and legislation.
The Senior Policy Officer will provide expert advice on environmental policy issues and may represent the EPA or the Government on committees and other groups at the state or national levels as required. The establishment and maintenance of networks and relationships with other individuals and agencies, both Government and non-Government, will be an essential part of this responsibility.
