Description:

This post is fixed-term for 3 years ending no later than 31 December 2027.
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Senior Postdoctoral Research Associate in the areas of Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning. The University of Oxford has partnered with Google DeepMind to provide a platform for positive change, working to diversify the research community and understand how AI and ML can be best used to support societal and scientific development.
The post holder will engage in internationally leading research in AI or ML, manage their individual research portfolio, establish research collaborations across the University, and supervise research students. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to conduct a small amount of teaching at the Department of Statistics in their areas of expertise, and organise and participate in outreach activities to promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Statistics communities, and be a role model, ambassador, and point of contact for other emerging talent.
The Senior Research Associate will report to Prof Yee-Whye Teh, who will provide academic mentorship and guidance. They will be based at the Oxford Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (OxCSML) group, which is a vibrant research group working at the cutting edge of Statistical Machine Learning. OxCSML is part of the Department of Statistics, as well as Oxford’s ELLIS Unit, which is a broader community of academics and researchers at the University conducting research on fundamental and methodological aspects of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
The Department of Statistics proudly holds a Race Equality Charter Bronze Award and a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our commitment to openness, inclusivity and transparency, we would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type at Oxford.
Applicants must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil and have post-qualification research experience in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning and must demonstrate a commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. The successful applicant will have a strong publication history along with sufficient specialist knowledge in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning to develop research projects and methodologies.
Applicants will be selected for interview purely based on their ability to satisfy the selection criteria as outlined in full in the job description. You will be required to upload a statement setting out how you meet the selection criteria, a curriculum vitae, and the contact details of two referees as part of your online application. Please note that applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and making sure that their letters are sent to hr@stats.ox.ac.uk directly by the closing date.
Please direct informal enquiries about the post to Professor Yee-Whye Teh y.w.teh@stats.ox.ac.uk, quoting vacancy reference 172722.
