Description:

Are you a Postdoctoral Research Scientist who is looking for a career development? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Severe Infection Genomics playing a key role in project design and implementation by joining the group of Professor Julian Knight at the Centre for Human Genetics, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
You will play a key role in project design and implementation of a new NHS Genomic Network of Excellence (GNoE) on ‘Severe presentation of infectious disease’. You will undertake analysis of data arising from the programme including host genomic sequencing data, pathogen metagenomics. You will also have the opportunity to shape how research is embedded into new clinical workflows, and processes for gaining appropriate research consent and data management. The duties also include providing advice and supervising staff and students in the group on a day-to-day basis.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil in Genetics, Genomics, Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics and Physics, Computer Science or a related discipline and post qualification research experience. You will have experience of data management and demonstrated competence in scientific computing using at least one programming language. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with proven ability to think critically about scientific analysis is essential in order to ensure robust results. You will possess a demonstrable high level of communication skills both written and oral.
