Description:

At LSEG, we are reimagining the way in which our customers consume our data and services. The Senior Principal Engineer, Data Platforms is key to the success of this vision. Reporting to the Group Head of Data Intelligence Technology, you will have a core team who are accountable for building, owning, and operating our strategic data platform in partnership with Microsoft to revolutionise how customers use and consume our data.

Key responsibilities

  • Key technical engineer, empowered to partner with Microsoft on approach, design, best practice, and build of the data platform, balancing leading technologies against delivery execution.
  • Technical design and execution of large data platforms balancing feature development with operational excellence.
  • Optimise delivery focus across the teams and businesses.
  • Work across a number of internal and external stakeholders and senior executives to ensure transparency and communication of approach and design.
  • Risk Management – identify, coordinate and plan resolution of programme and portfolio risks.
  • Problem solving and decision making – sound judgment at a senior technical leadershio level using assertiveness and influencing skills to demonstrate business benefits and to ensure the decision is fully understood and accepted.

Essential Skills

  • Deep technical level data experience across various technology stacks, passionate about transformation (e.g. data mesh and fabrics).
  • Experience of designing and building large-scale data platforms at a Financial Markets firm, both in influencing, technical strategy and successful implementation in a hands-on capacity.
  • Experience working in the Data and Analytics business.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to tailor communication for facilitating discussion and decision making.
  • Strong focus on non functional and operational execellece of large scale platforms within a DevSecOps environment,
  • A real self-starter with the ability to make clear decisions and solve problems, generating solutions and ultimately getting the job done.
  • Proactively assess trend and risks to identify problem areas.
  • Creativity and innovation: Continuously maintain an innovative approach whist operating with a set of defined internal and external communication processes

Business and sector expertise

  • Experience with data sourcing, mastering and distribution in a public cloud environment.
  • Experience working with large data estates and data distribution methods.
  • Experience of working in highly regulated environments (e.g. banking).
  • Broad understanding of the Data Intelligence domain within Financial Markets.
  • Strong financial and commercial competence with a customer driven approach.
  • Knowledge of current and future technological trends and concepts (e.g. data mesh and fabric).
  • Expertise in understanding and leading internal and supplier teams to drive efficiency in the technology organisation.
  • Strong public cloud experience.
  • Strong lakehouse technology experience.

Leadership and management experience

  • Experience in partnering with a key technology partner.
  • Strong team building skills
  • Encourage trust, handle expectations, and gain sponsorship with business, technology and senior leadership teams.
  • Works with vendors to understand technical and business opportunities performing overall due diligence on third parties as needed.

  • Provide technical leadership and driving pro-active and re-active influencing of resources in a matrix environment.
  • Able to communicate confidently and concisely with people at all levels. Technologists and non technologists, senior managers and team members.
  • Proven track record to translate the vision/strategy into clear priorities and direction.
  • Strong collaborator with the ability to develop effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Astute at dealing with ambiguity and resilient to changing business priorities and organisational goals.
  • Ability to develop talent through coaching and mentoring, with a passion for developing talent within wider team and beyond.
