About you and this role - What you will do in this role
TES Process Automation Packaging & Specialty Plastics Business Focused Team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Process Automation Engineer, supporting our P&SP technologies globally. The location of this role is Sabine (Orange, TX).
As the new Senior Process Automation Engineer, you will join the highly motivated skilled team working with challenging process automation solutions locally and globally in North and South America, and Europe. The Polyethylene business is one of the largest value creators in The Dow Chemical Company and continues expanding production facilities globally. The Process Automation team is one of the key contributors for supporting the business growth and our work is highly recognized by the business.
As Senior Process Automation Engineer, you will serve as a technical resource and process automation lead for small to large capital and improvement projects regionally and/or globally. We are looking for someone who can apply process automation skills, knowledge, and experience and in collaboration with other teams, including engineering, operations, maintenance, R&D, logistics, analytical, etc.

Responsibilities - Duties, projects, tasks, and activities you would be responsible for in this role

  • Support Polyethylene projects, improving the process automation performance, including improvement projects, alarm management, control loop performance and Management of Change implementation.
  • Program control applications for various distributed control systems. Write simulation applications in order to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators.
  • Develop, test, and commission Process Automation software and operator interface software to meet design criteria, utilizing the Process Automation Work Process.
  • Collaborate with engineering department and P&SP business process automation resources to design and execute projects. Apply Global Project Methodology (GPM) and Process Automation Work Process Discipline.
  • Drive project execution within your discipline. Ensure that the project scope is well defined and meets the business needs in a cost-effective manner. Participate in project commissioning and startup activities, including tuning of control loops.
  • Obtain basic knowledge of unit operations and Chemical Engineering fundamentals.
  • Be a global project team member and design/deliver Process Automation strategies and control code by applying plant knowledge, work-process discipline knowledge.
  • Participate regularly on multiple-function and multi-national teams. Utilize negotiating skills to resolve issues successfully to a win-win solution, and effectively resolve conflicts in area of responsibility.

Qualifications - Required education, experience and abilities that are needed for this role (must haves)

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3-years’ experience in process automation, engineering, manufacturing, or related experience
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 10% annually (both domestic and/or internationally).
  • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills - An expanded list of qualifications that are “nice to have”, but not essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledgeable with one or more process control platforms (ABB, Siemens, MOD5, Emerson, Delta V, Foxboro, Honeywell, Modicon). Siemens PCS7 is preferred.
  • Experience in Packaging & Specialty Plastics manufacturing technologies. High Pressure Copolymers is preferred.
  • State Based Control experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • You must be able to work with minimal supervision and be self-directed.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage many projects simultaneously.
  • Problem solving skills coupled with a strong technical background.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively sell ideas to all job levels.
