Description
The Portfolio Product Owner (PPO) for Systems of Engagement in Global Digital Services (GDS), initially focused on engineering and will expand to other personas, will align teams to create a common strategy and delivery model for the platform that engineering, and technology teams use to accelerate delivery of business value. This role will drive the strategy, the roadmap, and value realization of the engineering platforms systems of engagement and associated services. Initial focus will be to identify and prioritize critical platform capabilities across engagement systems alongside work supporting GDS flagship initiatives to continue to drive significant technology delivery productivity improvements.
This role owns the platform strategy and is the primary engagement point for the engineering platform and services for all technology employees at Liberty Mutual. The role represents the voice of the customer and the organization through the delivery of business value. Works closely with stakeholders (business and technology), including executive leadership, to define and prioritize cross platform features, ensuring alignment with customer needs and short and long-term organizational goals. Partners with experience/journey product owners on customer-driven design and usability testing for squad/team and across the organization and with peer PPOs to align on prioritization, eliminating redundancy across systems of engagement in GDS. Understands customers’ problems in detail and ensures the problems are clearly defined, prioritized and teams are focused on the most valuable work for the organization. Collaborates with squad/teams, technologies, and architects across multiple portfolios to develop a deep understanding of the technologies and systems they support. Identifies existing capabilities and ensures their adoption where needed within the portfolio as well as identifying capability gaps and ensuring there aren’t duplicative efforts taking place to help reduce redundancy and promote reuse.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelors degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities etc) and a minimum of 10 years direct experience with Agile teams as well as 7 years in business, technology, or consulting; Masters degree preferred
  • High level of proven business expertise needed to set clear priorities for product and understand business value impacts
  • Develops strong stakeholder relationships and influencing across multiple organizational boundaries
  • Demonstrated experience leading varied audiences through the development of complex ideas, issues and designs
  • Ability to lead varied audiences through census building
  • Technical proficiency required to participate in sprint planning and have an informed, independent voice
  • Strong influencing skill

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for leading cross portfolio strategic initiatives. Sets ambitious and clear cross portfolio strategy, develops comprehensive product vision and translates into roadmaps based on ongoing input from stakeholders.
  • Accountable for developing and achieving product level KPIs. Manages product(s) with expert level of strategy, scope, and complexity.
  • Leads IT and business leadership to align development and business goals and priorities while working with stakeholders and the squad/team to remove roadblocks to execution.
  • Owns and maintains the product cross portfolio/program level backlog and is accountable for its contents and prioritization.
  • Resolves open issues/questions quickly and efficiently.
  • Contributes to priorities for and leads portfolio quarterly planning.
  • Leads the analysis and reporting on feasibility, cost of delay ramifications, economies, or other aspects of planned or potential changes to the product.
  • Maintain knowledge of the industry, marketplace, and competitive landscape external to Liberty, and apply that to product strategy ensuring customer-driven design considering user pain points.
