About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service (SES), and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.
Purpose of the role
The Fleet Delivery team is responsible for leading fleet operations, fleet strategy and mechanical services, and provides repairs and maintenance of fit for purpose heavy, light, and medium commercial fleet vehicles and associated equipment to all members of QFES. Through the full lifecycle management and best practice approach to the fleet and equipment management, we ensure all assets and equipment are managed strategically and maintained to meet the complex environment in which they are deployed and utilised, and to meet operational capability and organisational objectives.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be a key member of the team and will oversee the project management of various QFES fleet build programs, and manage supplier performance against KPIs to ensure appliances are delivered within agreed timeframes to meet operational service capability. Utilising strong project management principles and compliance with the contract management framework you will map complex fleet delivery projects and provide real time reporting on program functions and supplier issues, including undertaking various procurement activities to facilitate the establishment of long-term supplier arrangements that meet business objectives and organisation requirements.

  • Experience and/or qualifications in project management and understanding of project management methodologies, process, and procedures.
  • Experience in project management and/or contract management of vehicle modification and body building processes.
  • Experience in document control, systems administration, and establishment of document/file standardisation.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Contribute to the implementation of systems and administration strategies and plans of large scale, fleet projects, milestones, and any associated tasks in line with QFES project management methodologies to ensure program deliverables and timeframes are achieved.
  • Manage strategic medium to high risk procurement projects for fleet and services, and ensure positive outcomes to meet client and stakeholder objectives.
  • Provide quality and timely advice to key stakeholders relating to fleet program issues and initiatives to enable effective decision-making, continuous improvement and ensure value for money outcomes for entire vehicle lifecycle.
  • Drive continual service delivery improvements with processes, systems and tools, including identification of efficiencies and collaborating on the development of innovative solutions to support operational capabilities.
  • Undertake negotiations and manage procurement and contract management matters to facilitate fleet delivery planning and ensure adherence to procurement policy and departmental objectives are achieved.
  • Prepare and review briefs, submissions and reports on fleet delivery and services related issues and initiatives, in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.
  • Liaise, consult, and negotiate with key internal and external stakeholders to identify technical and operational implications, and ensure desired timeframes are achieved through the coordination of administrative activities with the regional workshop administration team.
  • Undertake sourcing initiatives including research and development of design specifications, tendering documents, evaluation and implementation of a centralised asset replacement and maintenance program.
