Teck’s central Asset Management team provides expertise, support, and builds capability at Teck’s mine sites, enabling them to operate and maintain their assets for the maximum benefit of the business. This team of reliability and maintenance professionals collaborates with site teams and industry partners to develop and implement effective strategies for maintaining Teck’s physical assets. Using validated methods and innovative solutions, Asset Management helps ensure that equipment operates reliably and safely, and that maintenance is done right, at the right time, for the right reasons.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management, the Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe and successful execution of a mobile mining equipment rebuild program. Working as part of a project team, the Project Engineer will help Teck deliver on a strategy of cost-efficient and sustainable mining equipment rebuilds.
The successful candidate will be a flexible and conscientious team-player with remarkable interpersonal skills. They must have demonstrated project planning experience and understand how to craft and lead a detailed technical scope of work. The candidate will know the value of being in control of project risks and product quality. Most importantly, they will be customer-focused and recognize the need to engage project collaborators in relevant project decisions. We are seeking an upbeat and energetic contributor who understands how to balance focused project management with need to remain agile while implementing work in large industrial operating sites.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Engineering degree in a related field
- Applicants need to be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC) and Alberta (APEGA) as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC/APEGA registration
- 7+ years of experience in industrial project management or mine maintenance
- Qualification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is considered an asset
- Must have experience working in a large industrial environment – mining, oil and gas, or manufacturing
- Experience with mobile mining equipment
- Solid understanding of both project management software (MS Project, Primavera) and EAM applications (Maximo, SAP, JDE, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to travel within North America will be required
- Fluency in written and verbal Spanish is an asset
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Hold primary responsibility for the development of the project scope of work for various asset rebuild projects. Scopes are developed in alignment with manufacturer and site standards, with the participation of the asset owners at the mine site
- Responsible for the identification and management of scope change. Work closely with the Project Lead to ensure change management processes are followed
- With the Project Lead, Site Coordinators, and contractors, support the development and maintenance of an accurate and detailed project schedule. Support tracking and reporting of schedule progress during the execution phase
- Support the development and control of the project budget. Prepare appropriation requisition and budget documentation to secure project funding
- Requisition project materials and coordinate material movement between worksites
- Contribute to the development of the project quality control plan, including time on site verifying conformance with the approved project scope
- Support the Project Lead with development of long-term project plans
- A regular presence at the project site(s) will be required, as well as visits to vendor facilities
