Mott MacDonald is seeking professionals to join our ever-expanding tunnel team. We are currently looking for versatile civil, geotechnical or structural engineers in either NYC, Iselin NJ, Boston or Arlington VA to serve as a senior project engineer in our tunnels resource group with a focus on underground design and construction projects. Experience in the transportation and water/wastewater sectors would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the delivery of our existing portfolio of tunnelling projects in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Oversight of staff and execution of field investigation programs to collect data for use in design, condition assessments and the preparation of Reports;
  • Contribution to detailed analyses for our projects involving tunnels and underground structures
  • Development of field instrumentation programs and evaluation of collected data;
  • Management of staff producing design solutions, reports, and contributions to/reviews of specifications and drawings;
  • Writing reports for submission to clients, including design-related technical memoranda and Reports;
  • Direct client engagement working with guidance from senior management; including liaising with clients, responding to queries, and attending design and progress meetings.
  • Contribution to and preparation of proposals for submission to clients;
  • Ability to lay out/develop a design program and independently manage a team of staff;
  • Managing and mentoring junior/graduate engineers and supporting their development

We’re looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our team to continue this and invite applications from candidates with: Bachelors in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering is required and a Masters in a related field is preferred.

Professional engineer (PE) license in New Jersey, New York or ability to obtain a license within 12 months;

  • NCTI Certified is preferred.
  • 8-12 years of experience in engineering consultancy (not including education), experience in New York preferred;
  • Proficient in the use of structural software: STRAND7, SAP, STAAD or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of geotechnical software, this may include Plaxis, GeoStudio packages/Slide, Rocscience packages, geotechnical data management (GINT/Holebase). A working knowledge of BIM tools (Bentley/Autodesk) would also be advantageous.
  • Demonstratable record in design with experience in geotechnical engineering , ground characterization for soil and rock and a working knowledge of concrete, steel and foundation design
  • Strong references from past managers or clients;

Interest in underground design and construction for the transport, water or waste water Sectors and multidisciplinary working experience would also be advantageous.
