The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is a dynamic and innovative organisation dedicated to delivering excellence in regional projects. Currently we are seeking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Managers to join our Regional Projects team. We have a lot of work to do here at Hawke’s Bay Regional Council as part of the recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle, that’s why we need you to be able to hit the ground running, providing day to day management of infrastructure projects within our region which are already well underway. This opportunity allows you to contribute to the strategic direction on how the Asset Management Group delivers its capital program. Extensive efforts are currently in progress to design, oversee and manage comprehensive construction projects ranging from $20-70 million. This work is diverse and interesting, offering a rare opportunity to be part of a flood network redesign for an entire region, work that will continue to unfold over the next ten years. These projects will make a real difference for Hawke’s Bay, bringing you immense job satisfaction and a feeling of true achievement.

ABOUT US | E PĀ KI A MĀTOU:
At Hawke’s Bay Regional Council our purpose is to work with our community to protect and manage the region’s precious taonga of rivers, lakes, soils, air, coast and biodiversity for health, wellbeing and connectivity. Our organisation is diverse, and our work is varied. Our structure comprises of six key business units; Corporate Services, Integrated Catchment Management, Asset Management, Māori Partnerships, Policy & Regulation, and the Executive Advisory Group which also consists of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage construction contracts (NZS3910) with both inhouse construction resources and the external contracting industry
- Manage infrastructure projects through their full lifecycle from activation to closeout managing designers and constructors to handover
- Preparation of tender documents and assessments
- Oversee management, surveillance, and quality assurance of construction projects
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:
- At least 7-10 years’ experience delivering infrastructure projects for local government, utilities or consulting engineer is essential
- Relevant equivalent tertiary qualification (Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Studies)
- Proven project management skills, and practical knowledge of project management frameworks, systems, and practices
- Sound computer skills with MS Office and project management tools
- Open minded and collaborative approach to working both within a team and with external stakeholders
- Innovative and solution focused attitude
