Here is what we need to see from you!

Education:

  • Tertiary degree in related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in estimating on heavy industrial projects, or an equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.
  • At least 2 years field construction experience and at least 2 years in an EPC consulting/construction environment would be an advantage.
  • Cost OS (Prism) experience preferred, but not required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to give direction to co-ordinate activities across different stakeholders
  • Analytical/ problem assessment capability
  • Advanced ability to define, review and communicate appropriate best estimating practice
  • Computer literacy (MS Office), specifically expert level MS Excel.

Presentation skills.

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THIS ROLE

What will you be responsible for?
As a Senior Estimator within the Capital Projects team at Newmont, your role is crucial in providing guidance, leadership, and expertise in the development and adherence to the company’s standards for estimating. Working closely with the Director of Projects and Closure Estimating, you will help define standards, processes, procedures, and tools to streamline estimating functions across Newmont Global Projects.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

Estimating Leadership and Expertise

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for Capital Cost Estimating within Global Projects.
  • Aid in the implementation of the established estimating tools within global projects, continuously improving them to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the estimating process.
  • Provide assurance activities for capital cost estimates as required e.g. preliminary and final estimate plan reviews, stage-gate reviews, definitive estimate reviews, review of consultant and vendor estimates, and risk reviews.
  • Aid in the development of Stage 1 & 2A project estimates/option analysis, next phase study costs, project owners costs where necessary.
  • Provide governance and assurance over service providers for the Stage 2B & 3 project estimates.

Support and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with, and support the regional project controls directors, and study managers across all sites within the Newmont portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Projects and Closure Estimating to provide essential tools and processes required for accurate closure estimates.
  • Support the Director, Projects and Closure Estimating in planning, recruiting, training, mentoring, and developing talent within the Estimating function.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders related to Projects Estimating, including Value Assurance, Regional Project Directors, Study Directors, Engineering, Project Evaluation, and Regional Site Teams.
  • Assist in the preparation of Authorization for Expenditure documentation.

Governance and Benchmarking

  • Aid in the development of capital cost estimates as required, ensuring compliance with Newmont standards.
  • Develop and maintain the governance documentation for the estimating practice.
  • Provide direct support for the yearly closure estimating process and reporting, ensuring transparency, accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Projects and Closure estimating, develop and maintain the Closure Benchmarking processes and system.
  • Conduct Assurance activities as required to maintain the quality of project estimating.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare, or aid in the development of organized and structured documentation for estimates, ensuring transparency and traceability.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to coordinate estimate preparation and ensure alignment with company standards.

Regularly monitor the progress of the various on-going project estimating activities, offering detailed guidance and support where necessary.

  • Provide input into scope management processes to maintain project integrity.
