Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new senior engineer to join our Radiotherapy Technical Services (RTS) team. The post holder will be responsible for initially one Varian True-Beam linac and a Siemens SOMATOM go.Sim CT in our new radiotherapy satellite unit in Milton Keynes. Two linac bunkers have been built with an additional linac to be installed at a later date. (The postholder may initially be working with our team in Oxford before their role starts in Milton Keynes)
The OUH Radiotherapy Centre at the Churchill Hospital is a five linac, all-Varian (including Halcyon, TrueBeam & iX) site with CT-sim, ARIA, Eclipse and HDR brachytherapy unit, plus a prostate seed brachytherapy service. Our existing satellite centre in Swindon operates a further two linacs and a CT-sim. A second satellite centre in Milton Keynes operating a single linac and CT-sim will open in 2024. Supporting systems include AI auto-contouring and RadCalc. We have a modern suite of treatment planning functionality including RapidPlan, MCO, HyperArc and Velocity, and we treat with a wide variety of techniques including SRS/SRT and SABR. In addition to a major linac and CT replacement programme we have a range of development work underway and on the horizon and also an active computing team working to develop software and scripts for automation and data analysis. We have close links with the CRUK/MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology and an expanding portfolio of clinical trials.
This post is primarily concerned with providing first line support, troubleshooting, repair, calibration and maintenance for two Varian True-Beam linacs and a Siemens SOMATOM go.Sim CT used for clinical radiotherapy in Milton Keynes.
Good communication with treatment radiographers, physicists and clinical staff regarding machine behaviour, identifying faults, rectify equipment, liaising with equipment manufacturers etc is paramount to the role.
Radiotherapy Technical Services also provide wider support to the department offering creative solutions in the development of other radiotherapy project/ patient support devices.
