About This Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Research Assistant to assist on the project, “Understanding and improving responses to suicidality to Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) clients: a data linkage study.” In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with project Chief Investigators and research staff to drive the successful delivery of project-specific outcomes.
As the Senior Research Assistant, you will be responsible for a range of critical activities, including desktop research, systematic reviewing, and data analysis. Expertise in mental health, systematic literature reviews, and data analysis, particularly within the context of military and veterans’ mental health or suicidality, will be an advantage.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Aid in developing and implementing literature review protocols.
  • Assist in creating logic/system models when necessary.
  • Support data analysis tasks as needed.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and instructions for self and team use.
  • Ensure adherence to approved ethics protocols.
  • Contribute to research outputs and collaborate on report/manuscript preparation.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position through until 26 June 2025. At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099.39 - $94,512.08, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076.28 - $110,579.13 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You

  • Completion of a relevant degree in health, social sciences, or related field with at least 4 years subsequent research experience or equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in health research, systematic reviewing, and other research methods, with experience in mental health research preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, forward planning skills, and task prioritisation to meet deadlines, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including clear and concise documentation production.
  • Subject matter expertise in data linkage and/or military/veterans’ mental health and suicidality is advantageous.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
