Description:
Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.
Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position will contribute to the general programming of the Prairie Climate Centre, including data analysis, research and literature reviews, applied adaptation planning, and the creation of knowledge translation materials for the Climate Atlas of Canada.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree (or in-progress) in the area of Environmental Studies, Sustainable Development.
- Experience in computer programming skills, including Python.
- Proficiency in the use of standard office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience conducting literature reviews and writing technical reports.
- Experience writing for a general audience in a variety of formats and media, including print and online.
Creation of Academic and Knowledge Translation Content
- Conduct, compile, and summarize background research on a variety of topics related to climate change in Canada.
- Assist with written summaries of research reports for public consumption.
- Assist with the production of written content (academic and plain language
Responsibilities:
Support the PCC in Adaptation Planning and Research Activities:
- Conduct literature reviews: research and synthesis of information to inform adaptation planning initiatives and other research ongoing at the centre.
- Assist in the creation of data summaries and visualizations
- Assist with the coordination of meetings, interviews, engagements, and workshops.
- Assist with planning for meetings, interviews, and engagements.
- Support with conducting meetings including notetaking, organization, and facilitation.
- Organize, summarize, and synthesize qualitative information from engagements and workshops.
- Assist with the production of written content including reports (academic and plain language), content for workshops, and other content for funders.
