Description:

Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.
Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

A Senior Research Assistant will work with Dr. Stephanie Bugden and her collaborators to assist with research studies investigating the development of basic numeracy skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg.
  • Completion of PSYC-4100 Research Design and Data Analysis (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of B.
  • Completion of PSYCH-4910 Special Topics in Cognitive Psychology and PSYCH-3920 Cognitive Neuroscience is preferred.
  • Experience using the Microsoft suite of programs.
  • Experience using R statistical program.
  • Experience using online data collection platforms (e.g. Qualtrics).
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Excellent organization, management and teamwork skills.
  • Strong leaderships skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with academic research including designing and running experiments.
  • Duties may include data collection, data entry, analyses, and interpretation of the results.
  • Prepare results and materials for publication.
  • Perform administrative duties relating to human research ethics submissions and subsequent research activities (e.g., type letters and other documents, photocopy references, organize files and keep lab records).
  • Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities.
  • Assist PI in developing a lab handbook and website.
  • Monitor project budget and make approved purchases on request (e.g. research equipment and office/lab furniture).
  • Help prepare research posters, slides for talks, and other materials to disseminate research findings.
  • Prepare literature reviews.
  • Monitor and document status of research projects conducted by undergraduate students.
  • Assist PI in developing grant applications, such as creating figures and tables.
  • Assist with developing stimuli and programming experimental paradigms
