Description:

Would you like to join a large collaborative five-year research project across three academic leading institutions in the UK to change how we think about the future of mobility?
Inspiring Futures for Zero Carbon Mobility (INFUZE) is a major £7.8m five-year research programme grant funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (UKRI-EPSRC). Working across the Universities of Leeds, Lancaster and the Royal College of Art (RCA), INFUZE is seeking to achieve transformative change in how transport works, addressing the climate challenge whilst improving fairness and quality of life. INFUZE is an exciting new collaboration which will work with authorities, businesses and citizens to re-imagine our transport systems. The programme will build an increasingly ambitious suite of real-world trials with communities, transport providers and government partners in Leeds and the region.
Lancaster University is highly ranked and research-led and situated near the historic city of Lancaster. The North West of England offers high standards of living, beautiful countryside, including the Lake District, and excellent national and international transport connectivity. Jobs - Lancaster University
The position is 1.0 FTE for 60 months, starting on 1 September 2024, or soon thereafter. You will be based jointly in the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA) and the Centre for Social Futures (CSF), Lancaster University.
Your key responsibility will be contributing to developing an innovative science of participatory urban mobility transitions in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and a wide range of publics. You will be able to adjust priorities and incorporate new tasks as the project evolves in consultation with the project leads. You may also be required to support activities of relevance to the project linked to responsibilities of the leads of work package 1 (WP1) Co-Design, in Lancaster and the RCA.
You will be educated to PhD level or equivalent, with demonstrable experience of: conducting independent and collaborative research; developing and implementing community activities with a strong participatory and inclusive approach; generating content and co-authoring outputs in relation to research undertaken in the context of collaborative research projects; and reporting on a range of different outcomes by project partners. A high level of proficiency in qualitative social sciences methods is essential.
You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to prioritise a demanding and varied workload. You will have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external partners; coordinate and support the organisation of project events and activities, including reporting on these; and work with colleagues in the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts, the Centre for Social Futures and the teams at the RCA and the University of Leeds.
You will have a creative, engaging, rigorous, and effective professional approach. Your previous experience will have equipped you for adapting flexibly to this role, thrive on change, and seek new challenges. Some flexibility to work out of hours due to deadlines and changing priorities as programme activities evolve may be required.
